📖 Video Introduction
Zhuge Liang was a man who advanced by dedicating his entire being, while Sima Yi was a man who withdrew his virtue and waited for the right time.
The Hexagram of Heaven and Earth (Tian Di Pi) in the Book of Changes states:
"A gentleman withholds virtue to avoid hardship; he cannot glorify himself through his salary."
During the time when Cao Shuang wielded power, Sima Yi feigned illness and lay in bed, thoroughly concealing his abilities. Then, when the time came, he rose up in an instant with his two sons. This is the very epitome of "frugality and virtue to avoid hardship."
Conversely, Zhuge Liang, true to the saying "bowing down and exhausting one's strength until death," did not stop at Wuzhangyuan until the stars fell.
The one who chose to advance and the one who chose to retreat. Both followed the path of a gentleman in that they upheld their Way to the very end.
