Traxxas Sledge upgrades and mods – turning a stock Sledge into a SAVAGE RC monster truck.

In this video we take a Traxxas Sledge and transform it from stock to SAVAGE with upgrades designed to improve durability, performance, and driving control. The Sledge is one of the most powerful 1/8 scale RC monster trucks Traxxas has ever made, but with the right modifications it becomes an absolute beast.

I walk through the upgrades, setup changes, and improvements that make this truck stronger and more capable whether you’re bashing, jumping, or running high power setups.

Traxxas ability to personalize and customize their RC’s has always been a big positive for me. I know some people complain because they want more accessories to be included out of the box. But the ability to customize and make your RC better than stock adds more fun and value and it provides a learning experience when it comes to working on your RC.

Building one now. Purchased- vitavon chassis, EzRun MAX6 G2 combo with a 4990 SD 1650KV MOTOR, GPM 7075 shock caps, GPM 7075 diff covers, GPM drive shafts and axles, GPM steel differentials, an aluminum reverse motor mount, machined steel spur and pinion, perfect pass servo and a bunch of other knickknacks I’m forgetting to mention.

One of the big wins for the Sledge is the ability to get to so many critical parts for servicing it so easily. The maxx and xmaxx are great being modular, but the center diff is right there under a couple screws, the front and rear diffs, pull them right out. Steering servo, 5 screws. You aren't disassembling much of anything for repairs or service.

Just got my sledge today and it is the first RC car I have had since I was about 15. I am now 41. This thing is insane lol. I won’t be leaving training mode for a while 😂. But damn do I feel Like a kid again.

One thing I never hear people mention is that since Traxxas offers all their own upgrades, their fit and finish is basically perfect. No sharp edges, flawless anodizing, perfect fit every single time. Arrma does not have the same fit and finish. The only other company with that Traxxas level quality is M2C.

One of the biggest things is you can only get away with certain things in aluminum. And I like how you mention that in the toe links. People sometimes go overkill on aluminum and think it's the best. You got to have some sort of give and I rather it break a 10 dollar set of toe links over a pricey servo anyday.

These are all really nice upgrades but in my opinion the very first upgrade anyone should do to the sledge is an aftermarket motor mount that ties the motor to the center differential because the first time you jump and land hard that chassis is thin and its gonna flex and chew the gears up. Have had it happen and seen a lot of people complain about it as well.

This is the best Sledge build I have seen. Love the CF shock towers and excellent choice with the servo. Awesome touch with red aluminum shock caps too. Fantastic Sledge 😍

Absolutely love this build and I’d choose the red and black as well only thing I’d change is the servo id do a traxxas 2280 beats it in specs at 6 and 7.4v and traxxas support is top notch

I can’t stop watching this video. Those Proline wheels and tires make it look like much more of a high performance machine over stock. And the aluminum center dif mount is a thing of beauty. Love this Sledge 🔥

I’d say a full plastic skid plate is needed for the bottom of the chassis to help reduce scrapes. Unless there’s some kind of adhesive film that can be used. This Sledge build is AWESOME!!!

I agree with just about all of what you recommended. This car is screaming out for a Coke/Coke Zero livery. Personally would go with anodized red front bearing carriers though. And yes, this owner needs to have the coloured camber links and dial in some camber.

That build is incredible and it looks amazing! I will definitely be adding one to the collection. However if you want the most bang for your buck with a 1/8 scale. Kraton 6S EXB V6 out of the box is an absolute monster. My favorite 1/8 basher so far.

@Traxxas❤ PLEASE make a metal pan hard bar mount for the TRX4 & motor plate shim washers for the sledge.
