Your struggling version is the one many of us wish for

1:20 GURL WHAT YOU MEAN "YIKES"???

Another day without vibrato

"dont think about placing the larynx, we don't do that" "the vibrato happens above the larynx and above the tongue"
WHY IS NOBODY ELSE TELLING ME THIS STUFF????????????????????????????

I kind of like a super fast vibrato, tbh. It may not technically be correct, but I love watching old videos of Gwen Stefani in the '90s with No Doubt. She has that completely insane vibrato that really fits the energy and style of the music.

I feel I should mention that although you represent and demonstrate the exercises correctly when speaking about the trill (and Lehmann's writing on this echoes many exponents of vocal technique), your video title seems to confuse vibrato and trill.
I'd say you will be doing your subscribers a big favour if you clarify that they are not the same thing: vibrato is an acoustical beat on the same note (this cannot be emphasised enough) that occurs naturally when the tone is correctly placed, the jaw is relaxed and there is sufficient breath support from below the diaphragm.
Trill is (as you correctly quoted) an ornamental embellishment technique that encompasses two distinct notes.
Further, vibrato is unique for every voice.
How I like to explain it is to show a clip of a rocket lifting off: in the fiery tail one sees triangular sections repeating down the flames called Mach diamonds. These are the result of the surrounding atmospheric pressure at low altitude pushing back against the pressure of the blast, and so creating a resonance that is visible. The pressure stays constant (as with the breath) and the "beat" is clearly visible and at a more or less consistent frequency.

i was like "omg i am i a noob" and then i watched the vid and realised that YAY IM DOING IT RIGHT! thank you for this series it's literally everything

When I was younger, I had no vibrato at all. It wasn't until around the COVID pandemic, I was singing along to a sing in the living room and spontaneously did a perfectly leveled vibrato out of nowhere. That was around the time I started playing with it, trying different speeds. I didn't use this particular exercise method, but I just started channeling it more.

10:06 it's hard to hear that coming from the musical theater community. At least in my area, you won't see any show without singers who have vibrato and can delay their vibrato for the big finish. It's very frustrating

This exercise makes me sound like shit 😂 but like any vocal exercise it’s not meant to sound pretty.

I have had news for those searching. After 2 years of trying to "hack it" I finally found my vibrato and it's exactly as she says. No one ever wants to hear this but it's the same as any other discipline. Do the work. Do the exercises that prioritize technique and relaxation and the vibrato comes as a reward for that. IT TOOK ME 2 YEARS.

OMG - Lehmann does NOT conflate Trills (deliberate ornaments,  on 2 notes 1/2 or 1 tone apart) with Vibrato. Excessive Vibrato, she called Tremolo  - NOT a Trill. And if you listen to her recordings, or almost any Soprano from the late 19th-early 20th century,  they don't have a pronounced Vibrato. The fashion for obvious Vibrato came in the past 20 or 30 years.
When i was young (many years ago) I  struggled with Lehmann's Trill exercises...
gave up music for a long time...came back to it later and found my Trill had just appeared. Nice,  because my naturally high flexible Soprano suits the old Bel Canto music.

I practiced what seemed like an endless trial and error to get mine. I realized if I press air in between my tongue and palate, leaving just enough space, and then pull my tongue down and back, it creates a vacuum that would trigger my vibrato a lot easier. And that's what started it and I was able to apply it with the rest of the vowels shortly after, and got my 4 pulse leggiero (When I look into your eyes-Firehouse peak, last chorus) not long after. 😁

I prefer straight tone, but I would love to be able to add a little vibrato at the end of long notes the way someone like Freddie Mercury or Floor Jansen does. Having it as a tool in my toolkit would be amazing. I do end up singing with vibrato sometimes, but it largely happens accidentally.

Thank you so much for these lessons, it really help me alot ❤

Whoooooa this was very helpful. I’m a singer but also a voice instructor and your videos are always so eye-opening. Thank you for making these videos.

I love your Old lady vibrato ❤

Yo! I am new here, after 2 to 3 times, I did It! Thank youuuuuu!

(Will continue to practice)

First seconds of intentional vibrato ! thank you
