Picture this, I’m a 41 year old Dutch guy and I’ve lived safely in peace all my life thanks to these guys.
I realize that all to well, so every time I watch a clip like that, my eyes tear up.

Their sacrifice is our freedom!
- our heroes.

The Dutch made The Netherlands, but the Canadians and the Polish saved it from the Nazis.

My grandfather told me about the liberation. And the look in his eyes when he talked about the Canadians. I could not even begin to describe it. He instilled in me the deep gratitude towards the Canadians.

In the Netherlands, we say 'Freedom is a verb.' We must maintain our freedom. Especially in these turbulent times, with geopolitical tensions and people who want to turn back time, tolerance, respect, reason ans common sence are required. Only then can humanity overcome this. Germans are now friends and stand for the same values as ordinary people in the rest of Europe and a large part of the world. The belief in freedom is greater than sowing division by a tyrant! The fact that we consciously experience freedom today is thanks to heroes like the Canadian soldiers. Thank you!

I am crying all the time seeing this . I am dutch , 63 years old , my parents were 16 and 17 when the war ended. They suffered, but we were brought up to be very grateful. Thank you , for liberating us. Thank you so much .!!

It's the least we could do. We feel very connected with the Canadians.

Love forever to our liberators! I have no words to express my gratitude! My grandfather was killed in a bombardment in Eindhoven, and 2 of my uncles were deported to a concentration camp. My mother, 92 years old, died last week, and she taught me to respect the Canadians forever. We cannot thank you enough!

My grandparents were evacuated because of operation Market Garden with their 5 month old baby girl, my mom. They were relocated to a farm 20km away and lived with that family for a while. When the Germans were fleeing they knocked on doors to hide in the houses. My grandmother gave my mother cold milk so she would be screaming and crying. No German dared to hide in their house because of the noise and moved on to the next house. Pretty clever, right?

Little over 6 months later the Canadians and British came, just a few days before my mothers 1st birthday. They never forgot nor did the rest of the family.

We are forever grateful that these brave men liberated us

A Canadian veteran could just enter any Dutch house without permission and be a welcomed and honored guest.

Tears in my eyes. I'm Dutch. Thank you very much to all Canadians for the Liberation in WO2. Respect!

Every time I walk from the parking lot to my work, I walk past a small memorial of a Canadian soldier. Somehow that single Canadian soldier managed to liberate the city by himself. And every year without fail, there will be flowers at that memorial on memorial day.
