We arrive in Albania, have the famous Blue Eye to ourselves, wild camp beneath an incredible sunset—and then face our biggest storm of the trip in a questionable parking spot at 2am.
We’re Jess, Eli and Reef, a couple and their dog who swapped life in the north-east of England for a year of van life across Europe, the Balkans and Morocco 🏕️🚐
This week, we take the van across the border into Albania. After a straightforward crossing, we head into the Albanian Alps and the spectacular mountain village of Theth.
We walk to the Blue Eye early enough to enjoy it without the crowds, giving us over an hour at this beautiful spot completely to ourselves. From there, we hike to Grunas Waterfall and cool off with a plunge in glacial water.
Then we take on a tough but rewarding hike that finishes with an unforgettable sunset 🌅 We wild camp at the top of the mountain and then get up early to an equally beautiful sunrise.
Next, we take a boat trip to the Shala River, travelling through the dramatic valleys around Lake Koman before swimming in its clear, cold water 🌊 of course our dog, Reef, joins the boat trip!
Then the weather takes a turn. We are hit by our biggest storm yet, and a questionable overnight parking spot leaves us panicking at 2am ⛈️
