The cover of her album was painted by her grandmother!

25:15 casually dropping the line "the mirror is the reminder of the passage of time" is crazy

Forwards beckon rebound never fails to make me cry like a baby. Definitely one of my favorite songs of all time

Fun fact: the shaker + the palm mute harmonics you guys were hearing is actually Adrianne strumming her guitar with a paintbrush! She’s also using a paintbrush in dragon eyes

A lot of these songs in the context of "album that released after her divorce with her wife that wanted kids but she didn't" are heart breaking. That line you talked about, the "and I hold you to my knife" has always read to me as an allegory for the contingency of her relationship. She doesn't want kids, that's the knife she holds, and her ex wanted kids. This whole album is a poetic masterpiece.

describing ingydar as a reminder of death is very poignant when knowing the song was written about her late horse ingydar

You guys just keep picking great albums to react to

The afternoon before my grandmother passed, I visited her in palliative care in the worst state I ever saw her. The night it happened; I had almost no reaction. The next day, during my morning commute, I put my Spotify playlist on shuffle, and it happened to land on "Come." It totally wrecked me. Adrienne Lenker never fails to evoke those kinds of emotions.

she always sounds like shes sing-crying?? idk how to explain it, but her voice so relived and somber at the same time lolol

the way you two analyze and experience music to such an extent is so beautiful to experience. adrianne lenker has been one of my favorite artists for awhile, i have basically all her songs and lyrics and sounds memorized, but seeing it through new eyes is one of my favorite things about reaction channels. i really do hope you'll react and listen to more of her albums, as well as some of big thiefs!! so much beauty to capture through her voice

So actually these aren’t necessarily field recordings. She recorded this in a cottage/shack. The birds, the wind, the rain are all there whilst she is recording.
Also, if you have the vinyl record everything from instrument, to tape mixer to vinyl is analogue. There’s no digital processing in the entire chain. It’s a satisfying thought and indeed the vinyl record sounds super immersive.

i wish he was my teacher. i think half of my problems would be solved if i could look up to someone so poetic and present

I’m surprised that both of you didn’t shed a single tear, her music never fails to make me tear up. Also the analysis about life and death within this album is beautiful 😢

this so funny because they sit there and listen music and it’s kinda awkward but like this is me when i show people my music

I 100% endorse listening to more Adrianne Lenker/ Big Thief albums

both of you are very soft spoken, i love the commentary.

this man is the kind the world makes very few of, a profoundly intelligent and poetic individual, the way he puts his thoughts into words and describes music is an art in itself.

25:55 fun fact about dragon eyes: adrianne actually used a paint brush to strum this song! <3

I am getting "everything eats and is eaten" tattooed on my ribs as a reminder that everyone dies that's just part of living

Crazy fact: the Indigo she sings about in 'anything' - her muse and ex - ended up having her own family one day, just like she wanted...with Sufjan Stevens's brother!
