Woodturning the dragon scale box.   This box started as a piece of poplar and was turned with a well fit lid.  Once it was turned I used a woodburning pen to burn a pattern that resembles dragon scales.  The final step was to use acrylic paints to dry brush layered colors.

Here is your chance to see this scale carving technique in person.  I will be doing a hands on demo of this technique at the Mid Atlantic Woodturning symposium September 25-27 in Lancaster, PA.  Anyone that attends the symposium can watch and the first 10 that want to follow along can sit down at a wood burner create there own scales.  There is a full lineup of professional demonstrators demoing all sorts of turning topics the entire weekend along with many opportunities to try different embellishing tools in the hands on area and a packed vendor area.   visit www.mawts.com for more details and to register.
