Hello! Today I’m restoring and cleaning a rare knife that I’ve come across for the first time.
This is a Trabzon knife from Turkey — quite a rare piece. The materials used in its construction are buffalo horn, forged steel, natural leather, wood, and brass. It’s a very interesting item with a story behind it.

I can attribute this particular example to the 20th century, likely the mid-1900s. Its condition is average: all the parts are present, but there’s some rust on the sheath fittings and deep corrosion on the blade itself. Nevertheless, I’m very glad I found this knife — and now it’s time to restore it.

I started with cleaning the blade. Of course, in this case, using acid or any harsh chemicals is out of the question.
Instead, I used WD-40, oil, and a rotary tool, which helped me deal with the hardened rust.
It’s possible the knife had been stored for a long time in a damp place.
I also used sandpaper. After all the procedures, I managed to clean the blade, although some dark corrosion marks remained. I decided not to remove them — to preserve the knife’s history and avoid damaging the blade itself, as the corrosion was quite deep.

I lightly polished the handle with fine jeweler’s polishing paper. Then I applied products specifically meant for cleaning horn. And finally, I treated the whole thing with linseed oil.

The sheath of the Trabzon knife was cleaned using special leather wax, followed by linseed oil treatment as well.
The metal fittings on the sheath were carefully brushed with a small soft brass brush to remove surface rust, and then oiled, too.

After all the restoration work, as always, I did a quick test for you. Don’t forget to share this video!

Sincerely, Alex. Thanks for attention!
Good luck and health to everyone! With best wishes, Alex!
