Joe you are absolutely the GOAT of fly fishing instruction on you tube.  Great instruction, video and you have special gift as an instructor. Thanks for what you do for us who are trying to get better at this sport.

This is undoubtedly one of the finest fly fishing videos I've come across, and it's without a doubt your best work yet. It's refreshing to see a focus on mending techniques, which are often discussed while the camera is fixed on the rod or instructor, rather than capturing the intricacies of the water and the actual presentation. Unlike many YouTubers who seem more interested in showcasing themselves, you and your wife have skillfully captured the true essence of the technique.

I sincerely hope you continue producing such informative videos, with a keen emphasis on the finer details and close-ups of the water. Your approach is truly commendable and sets a new standard for instructional fly fishing content.

Hey Joe, just stumbled upon your dry fly video. Before I say something about fishing, I want to point out your parenting. Just from a couple seconds, I can tell are a good father. First, observation is that your son is confident and competent. Usually, ( not always) a  natural sign of good parenting. What stands out most to me though is that you don’t shame him, try to one up him or overly correct him. You are supportive, flexible and humble. In your mind you wished he would make shorter casts but he has a mind of his own (which is good) and casts farther than your given advice. When he got a strike and made his own comment of why he thinks he’s right, you didn’t get into a disagreement with him. Instead you corrected yourself. “maybe a longer cast works” This shows a lot humility because even though you are the expert, you took your son’s word and real experience into account and changed your mind. Most importantly you let him do his fishing instead of imposing your own way. That shows you are paying attention to him, empowering him while still being a wise guide/ father. The last thing I wanted to point out in the end is how when you had a good fish on and your son missed the net and was down on himself, you didn’t just say "yeah, that was bad netting.”  Instead you found nuance that it was probably tricky and validated his efforts. You didn’t shame him, instead supported him in being with you and doing his best to learn. You also didn’t express too much disappointment  which can unintentionally make him feel guilty about his netting.  These small moments count a lot!…. And now to comment about your video - great quality instruction! Appreciate your thoughtful and technical mind. Got a lot of value and learned a lot. Keep up the good work Sir and best of luck in fatherhood and fishing!

As a golfer, I have been very lucky to have had a couple of great golfing buddies who were also professionals. Spending a day on the course was always a learning experience, and by simply watching and concentrating, vast amounts of knowledge could be absorbed.
I can imagine that spending a day on the river with you would be very similar.
