Hey Joe. After about 40 years I’m finally putting a Euro rig together. I’m paying attention to you guys in the know to add simplicity to my approach. My buddy was giving me some pointers and gave me his set up to try and l landed a trout on the first try. He said that was luck and try again. Bang, a second fish came to hand. He promptly snatched the rod from me grumbling, ‘gimme that rod back’!

Refreshing to hear another experienced fly fisherman say how difficult it is to learn to be an effective Euro nympher. People say it’s too easy and almost unfair to the trout. Yes, it is highly effective method in skilled hands, but I’ve yet to run into these guys on the waters I fish. Sure, anyone can lob a rig of a couple of nymphs and luck into a few fish. But learning to actually cast a Euro micro leader setup and then control the drift properly is EASILY the most difficult skill a fly fisherman will ever accomplish. I’ve been plugging away dilligently for three years now and I’m just know getting to the point where i consider myself moderately competent.

Joe, I’m on my euro journey always love your videos on this. The amount of guides and flyshops in my area that don’t do this or thinks it’s worth pursuing is astonishing.

I came here to say this weekend I started using High n’ Dry sighter wax neon pink color. It is a great product. I had about 4-5 feet before my colored tags, and was fishing shallow water. I put some neon pink on my tippet, it worked so well. So glad I picked this up from Red’s. Keep up the great videos

I’m in Missouri, a long ways away. I’d love to spend a day with a guide, spend half a day on euro and half a day Spey fishing. If I ever make it out there, I’d for sure get a guide from Red’s!!

i feel like there are a million of these videos. ive been on this path since 2018, now. SLOWLY going smaller and more simple. I think the best "transition" set up ive used is 25+ feet of straight 6 or 8lb amnesia to 2 feet of some sighter mono with a blood knot. it has enough mass to cast, and is "semi micro" - once you fish that a year...go to straight .20 mono...then .18 mono and a marker. the multiple step downs are really only needed for a newer angler trying this style. IMHO

Hi Joe, why using an actual fly line at all for the mono setup? Why not just spool mono on the reel all the way? You don’t actually cast with the fly line, or am I wrong?
