In this video, we react to the Glasgow accent for the first time. We absolutely love how Glaswegian sounds, but wow… actually trying to speak in a Glasgow accent is so hard. The rhythm, pronunciation, and all the little sounds had us struggling, laughing at ourselves, and appreciating this accent even more.

I'm sorry she's close but not quite there and as a Glaswegian it kinda grates.

You can clearly hear the difference between her and native Glaswegians.

We do tend to speak fast though.

A couple of years ago, i had to run into a doorway in Glasgow city centre to shelter from a downpour and was met with a 5 foot nothing wee American woman sharing the same space, i dressed in just a tee shirt, she in a head to toe bright pink see through rainnmate. As we both stood there and being your typical Glaswegian i went off on the usual rant of the Great Scottish summertime weather for a good 5 minutes. When the rain eased off i turned to my bewildered friend who was looking at me as id i`d just landed from Mars and said to me `Could you repeat that ?` I said, `what, all of it` ? She hadn`t a clue what i`d just said.

You can drive 20 mins in Scotland and the accent changes 😂 ....

The lady in the video doesn’t sound authentically Glaswegian, it sounds really forced and not natural, but its close enough to get the basics :)

I only live a 30 minute drive from Glasgow but have a completely different accent and use different words for things to my Glaswegian friends

I have a deliver driver every week who has a very strong glasgow accent and I can't understand a word he says, I just nod and smile and hope I have got it in the right order. I spoke to one of the other drivers about this and he said, don't worry we can't understand a word he says either🤣

A cockney would say "free" for three and Irish would say "tree" for three .

One of my friends is Glaswegian. My lovely Mum knew him for over 40 years. She struggled understanding him until the day she died. Tbh when he talks fast I still need a translator 😂

Even in London there will be a difference in accents from " East London" to " West London" and North & South London

My Grandad was born in Dalmarnock near Glasgow and moved down to the South of England in his 20’s. His accent never mellowed, he spoke incredibly fast and never met another adult other my Grandma who didn’t struggle to understand him. But kids always understood every word. He loved that.

I can drive 6 miles outside my city (Edinburgh) and hear people speak with a different Scottish accent. Different words and phrases.

A lot of it is Scots language tho and not just accent . Like Hoos is house ofc we say house in an accent but hoos is a Scots word as is ''hame'' meaning home both examples are from Norse .Theres so many examples ,cauld for cold , hunner for hundred etc . Loch comes from Gaelic means Lake ofc with that 'ch' sound common in gaelic .

The late Stanley Baxter, a Glasgow born entertainer, used to have a TV show that regularly featured a comedy sketch called "Parliamo Glasgow" which spoofed a popular TV Italian language course by speaking seemingly incomprehensible phrases and sentences in a thick Glasgow accent and then translating these into English. For example, "Geezapunnaburrafurramurra"—"Give me a pound of butter for my mother"). Video(s) available on YouTube.

I have a standard RP accent, but 9\10 times when I try voice activation on my TV and ask for ‘Sky News’, it comes up as ‘Chinese’. I’m beginning to think that my TV has been hacked by someone from Beijing 😂
