As a Malaysian, I would like to say something. I don’t think any of us mind foreigners coming here and staying. But I think every Malaysian will agree with me on this: Please stop saying everything is so cheap in public. You lot may be able to afford it, most Malaysians can’t.

For arab people, Malaysia is heaven on earth.. For Europe Malaysia hospitaly is first class with third world country prize. For other Asian, Malaysia is the country who help them for job and their economy.....let us pray to god for Malaysia..

Talking about safety, I spent 6 years in a Western country in my twenties. I've experienced a number of frightening experience with strange people there that made me always be cautious especially when walking alone. After coming back to Malaysia I feel safe wherever I go. May God bless Malaysia to be in peace, stable and secure always.

THANKS JACK, My wife & I just returned from KL about 3 weeks ago. We were totally amazed at the friendly, safe culture. The shopping centres were totally amazing with the most friendly shop assistants we've ever encountered. I whole heartedly agree that the choice and food quality is amazing. We are retired & are seriously looking for another place to retire too, as we feel that Australia is becoming a bit too expensive for retirees.

For westerners, things in Malaysia are inexpensive to you because you are either a tourist or expatriate spending your higher pay income money with relatively higher currency exchange rate than Ringgit. To the locals, things are expensive and their income are much lower. They are constantly struggling in Malaysia like what you experience in your country.

Just to add context from a Malaysian, living in Melbourne for the past 18 years. Now looking to move back due to a significant decline in the quality of living in the past 5 years.
Inflation has gone through the roof. Food, fuel, groceries is at least 50% more and mortgage interest rate still stuck at 6% while bank raking in millions on the back of homeowner.
Lastly the distance and price of air ticket to other parts of the world. Aussies just get ripped off and not the lucky country that it used to be.

Aussie here, been living with my japanese wife in japan for just over 10yrs. We tried living in australia but struggled to find a simple rental place, moved to japan and we instantly bought a big house with front and back yards bout an hour outside of tokyo with no issues. We would much rather live in australia because we both prefer the aussie lifestyle (especilially my wife) but its almost impossible to migrate back.

A bit of context here. Cost of living is lower in Malaysia but so are salaries, such that purchasing power for the average Malaysian is significantly less than the average Australian. Moreover, by moving from high cost Melbourne to low cost Kuala Lumpur you will be making KL more expensive for the locals. Also most objective measures of crime will show there is more crime in Malaysia than Australia. But both are safe countries compared to most. If you want ultra safe move to Singapore or even better, Tokyo.

Visited Malaysia for a holiday, found the people friendly and easy to get around the city.Australia is definitely expensive and it's not going to change any time soon.
