After several days of hard work, our boat engine is finally ready for its first full test. The mechanics worked late into the night to finish the repairs and carefully put everything back together. This morning, my husband and I prepared some simple noodles with eggs before heading out to test the engine.
Because there were many boats along the small river, we decided to take the boat about 3 kilometers out to the larger Cai River. The water was very high, and we had to carefully pass under several bridges. Before testing, my husband also went down to remove the trash caught around the propeller.
Once we reached the open river, we slowly increased the throttle and tested the engine at different speeds. The white smoke was completely gone, and the engine ran much smoother. After warming up, it reached about 2,050 RPM. We are very happy with the result and grateful to the mechanic for his dedication.

After several long days of hard work, the mechanics finally finished rebuilding our boat engine. Today was the day we could finally take it out and see how it performed.
That morning, while waiting for the two mechanics to wake up and get ready for the test, my husband and I shared a simple bowl of noodles with two eggs. Just one bowl for both of us, because we didn't want to waste food. I still remember the days when we could only afford plain noodles and couldn't even buy an egg. Life is still not easy, but little moments like this make us appreciate what we have even more.
After breakfast, I started the engine and prepared to take the boat out to the Cai River for testing. This time, we couldn't test on the smaller river because there were too many boats along both banks. From our starting point, it was about 3 kilometers to the larger river.
The water level was very high that day. When we passed under Cai Be Bridge, the cabin roof came very close to the bridge. The water level here can rise by around 3 to 4 meters depending on the tide, so we had to calculate everything carefully.
I used the first bridge as a reference to judge the clearance at the next bridge. When I increased the throttle, the rudder dropped by about half a meter, giving us more room to pass safely.
When we reached the embankment, my husband went into the water to remove the trash caught around the propeller while we waited for the mechanics. We needed the propeller to be completely clear so we could test the engine properly without anything holding it back.
After so many days of repairs, reassembly and waiting, the moment to test the engine had finally arrived.
Once we reached the open river, I gradually increased the throttle. The happiest thing was seeing that the white smoke was completely gone. The engine was running much smoother and stronger.
When the engine was still cold, it reached around 1,750 RPM. After warming up and allowing all the internal parts to expand properly, it reached about 2,050 RPM.
At that moment, I could really feel that the engine had come back to life after all those difficult days.
However, I felt that the current propeller was a little too light and wasn't fully using the power of the engine. We may need to adjust it or replace it with a more suitable propeller in the future.
Even so, I was truly happy and satisfied with the result. All those long days and late nights of work by the mechanics finally paid off.
I am sincerely grateful to the two mechanics for their dedication, careful work and responsibility. To me, repairing an engine isn't just about making it run again. It is also about experience, patience and putting your heart into your work.
A simple morning, one bowl of noodles shared by two people, a 3-kilometer trip out to the big river, and finally hearing the engine reach 2,050 RPM. To many people, it may just be an engine test, but to my husband and me, it is the result of many days of hard work and perseverance. ❤️
