There are places in Arizona where you can offroad right up to the edge of wilderness but you can't drive into it. Woolsey Springs is one of those places.
In this adventure, we take Duke down Woolsey Springs Trail as it winds between Signal Mountain Wilderness and Woolsey Peak Wilderness, two protected areas where motor vehicles aren't allowed. The trail takes us through remote Sonoran Desert terrain filled with rocky washes, sand and desert vegetation.
And that's part of what makes this trail so cool. You're surrounded by wilderness, but you're experiencing it from a trail that runs right through the middle of it.
We'll take on rocky sections, sandy washes, explore the area around Woolsey Springs, and see what this remote part of Arizona has to offer.
If you enjoy off-road adventures, Arizona trails, public lands, and getting out and exploring places most people never see, come along for the ride.
As always, know the rules before you go. An Arizona State Trust Land permit is required for this area, and conditions can change after storms and flooding. Cell service is also limited, so download your maps before heading out.
