The doors is my favourite band ever and this film is a perfect example of their unparalleled ability to create atmosphere through thier sound

"The horror, the horror." is straight from Conrad's Heart of Darkness. Read the novella guys.

"I wanted a mission, and for my sins they gave me one. Brought it up like room service. It was a real choice mission. And when it was over, I'd never want another." Cpt. Willard.
Haunting words.

My favorite war film of all time and top 10 all time for me. That ending with the doors song is just perfect

Joseph Conrad’s Heart of Darkness was written in 1899, not the 1920’s or 30’s.

I don't remember anything in the Kurtz inoculation story about an old man going blind.

1:12:29 the main thing when you're deployed to a war is you never have affection and seldom have genuine happiness. The USO is such a big deal because you're having that and for sure you're not going to die that day because you're in a safe area like BIAP in Iraq where I was at the time.

The entire production for this movie sounds like that episode of Always Sunny where Charlie has to prepare the bar before the health inspector comes, but like frank is flushing his shoes down the toilet, Dennis is clawing Mac in the face, the bar’s full of carbon monoxide etc.

Saigon. S#%^. I'm still in Saigon. Love the first sequence

This is my all time favourite film, an absolute masterpiece. However, there were a couple of things you didn’t mention

After making a big spectacle of giving the dying man water, Kilgore suddenly couldn’t care less about the guy when he realises that he’s in the presence of Lance.

Following the shooting on the boat, Phillips says that they will transport the wounded woman to an aid station, but Willard just shoots her dead and says to Philips “I told you not to stop this boat”. This scene demonstrates just how ruthless and cold blooded Willard really is.

After watching this film, The American Humane Society went, “The horror, the horror.”

The way the 1st Cav AirMobile was portrayed was so bad ass! Even though it was a bit cartoony, it also showed how brave those men, and kids, were. That was a VC controlled village, didn't you notice all the people shooting at them as they came upon the village? They had a reason to attack that village besides go surfing. PS R Lee Ermy did a great job as the Colonel's pilot.

Robert duvall in this movie is my dude!!! If I say it's safe to surf this beach, it's safe to surf this beach

It's strange seeing Martin Sheen so young in Apocalypse Now because the movie looks like it could have come out 10 years ago. Absolutely insane ahead-of-its-time cinematography.

I literally watched this film yesterday just so I could watch this pod 😂 it’s an absolute masterpiece and this is a brilliant break down of the film ❤
