Press F to pay respect for Audie's butt cheek

In the original 1998 Medal of Honor game, god-mode (Infinite ammo/health) is actually called "Audie Murphy" mode.

"You don't make history. You can  only hope to survive it"
A Murphy

i remember making the mistake of saying "who is Audie Murphy" to my grandpa. he made me watch To Hell and Back lol.

The minimum height and weight is because they want dudes who can carry equipment and possibly a wounded squad member.

Sabaton - To Hell and Back

Also yes nick shows the guns so he can use them as a write off it's super smart

45:00 He ended up locking himself in his hotel room for two weeks to self-detox. No weaning, just straight-up cold turkey.

"Oh, gather 'round me, comrades; and listen while I speak / Of a war, a war, a war where hell is six feet deep.
Along the shore, the cannons roar. / Oh how can a soldier sleep?
The going's slow on Anzio. And hell is six feet deep.

Praise be to God for this captured sod that rich with blood does seep.
With yours and mine, like butchered swine's; and hell is six feet deep.
That death awaits there's no debate; no triumph will we reap.
The crosses grow on Anzio, where hell is six feet deep."

'The Crosses Grow on Anzio', poem by Audie Murphy, 1948

Sabaton's Audie Murphy song is called To Hell and Back.

My grandfather knew him.  They were both in the 3rd Division together.

Go figure the only hole in plot armor is the one that lets you joke about hitting your dignity. 😂

ya missed the end; always let it play all the way out

Sailor here.  It's always been about the weight of equipment you're expected to haul around, but in recent years people have tried to make it about being intimidating on the battlefield.

Air Force veteran here.  Regarding height and weight requirements, depending on your job sometimes you can be too big as well.  Fighter pilots have a max height and weight requirement because they might not fit in the aircraft.  The bigger pilots usually have to fly cargo planes or bombers.

I'm somewhat surprised you didn't know about Audie Murphy. If you grew up in the 80s, he was a major actor in a lot of the westerns and war movies that were old enough to be put on TV, and he was still very celebrated as an actor. I was surprised just how amazing his actions were in WW2, but I grew up with people in media often speaking about him being both a decorated soldier and an actor.

As for the size thing, that had various justifications over time. Height and mass are related to how fast you can run and how much you can carry, so they still have those requirements today. In various circumstances, though, it has also had to do with equipment. They're not going to make a custom plane to fit a bigger or smaller person, and even the uniforms and boots are mass produced, so being too far off the normal range was a cost they didn't want to incur. You've probably seen the silly commercials with tall NBA players hitting their heads on things and not fitting in vehicles or clothes - that's a real concern for the military that needs to out-produce the enemy.

a history teacher teacher learning history from a YouTube video and just enthralled in it is just so great to see. I know teachers can't possibly know about everyone in WW1 and 2. You just seem like you want to pause and just watch. You can see the pure love of history in his eyes

The height and weight standards are the minimum because you start having to make accommodations. “Can’t see over the berm?” “We’ll have to order boots for you” and so on.

i know the fear in current army (IE 2001ish) especially with weight was that they wont be able to carry/pull a fallen soldier that weighs 250 plus with gear out.

I was looking forward to hear about Audie again. Absolute legend.
