Based on all the weird Pokedex entries, Pokecology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology, is a book that simplifies and applies the field of Ecology to the world of Pokemon! It's almost like they made this for me specifically! So here is my review, a book report in a way.

“Pokémon could be the first step into getting kids interested in real world animal science,”

Me, a lifelong Pokémon fan about to graduate with an animal health and behavior degree: “Nah that could never happen.”

I was no confused why Cubone got it so dirty in this book until the end when it evolves. Honestly a really fun way to depict it leveling up

I feel like as a game New Pokémon Snap did a great job of showing Pokémon ecology and interactions.

We need more things like this book. Even ignoring the ecology side, there are multiple design elements in the Pokemon themselves that are never shown in the games (like Lurantis' flower form) and may only be visible in the concept art.

I'm glad that after so many years, Pokémon finally dropped a book to explain the Pokédex entries and how they're actually based off science rather than having ten year olds write them

There’s a pile of Corsola on the cover of this book, and I now work at a coral lab because Pokemon got me into marine biology. It’s like poetry, it rhymes.

Kids get into ecology with Pokemon, then gratuate to Monster Hunter to then study real ecology.

seeing this book just makes me want even more for a slice-of-life style pokemon game, like a common person that isn't a pro trainer just living their life.

4:25 two things:
1. Possibly also because most kids may not be able to afford any pokemon products, given that scalpers are so predatory that they will even scalp pokemon donut boxes. Possibly also the donuts themselves.
2. Is that really what kids are watching these days?! If so, I fear for the future.

The main difference between Kingler and Klawf is that Klawf is completely brain rotted and Kingler has never used social media as it is a distraction from it’s career

9:16 tgat Cutiefly has his little fists up ready to fight

@none4534 2 weeks ago

klawf is a fully licensed proctologist is 5 regions, kingler lost her license after the lilipup incident.

3:40 well, wildfires are a very important part of ecology. they help re-fertilize ground and clear out already dead material. the problem is when too MANY wildfires are happening in too short of time, but thats not really the firehawks fault

Bro as a kid I would have LOOOOVED this book

13:26 Idk if it's related but there are some animals that use negative/positive charges to move/fly/float, spiders(using their webs like kites) and some parasites (which are so small they can barely move a meter away from where they were born so they take advantage of the fact that flying insects have energy diferencials with the ground to jump and let the charge stick them to their prey)

2:35 Oh. That's a child dying.
That's an image depicting a child either about to have or having their life-force sucked out for Duskull to feed on in official Pokémon media in 2026.

7:00 also the lurantis flower form has an animation left out in the sun and moon games that the leakers found out some years later 🔥🔥

I have so many things to say about this so I’m just gonna have to pick one.

I absolutely love that they’ve forever stuck with the “this kid revived the population of Lapras” thing, it has basically no relevance to any currently released pokemon game but they keep it going regardless just because they can

Maybe Appletun actually does have false eyes. The two leaves at the top of its back have a pattern that could be interpreted as being false eyes meant to resemble an Applin's eyes which themselves resemble the leaves of an apple.
