"You're not even my type."

Two weeks later...

"My soul, I give it to you."

Y’all saw Jinu hug Rumi and her blushing over it, and you thought they were related? LMAOO

Considering how people could be executed for ignoring a king's orders and how classist Korea was in the 1600s (when Jinu was a human, and when the first Hunters banded together & created the Honmoon)...? I don't think Jinu realized the deal he made with Gwi-Ma was only beneficial to him - and NOT his mother and little sister - until the guards didn't let his family come into the palace with him. And if he tried bringing them in, the king would've had him, his mother and sister ALL executed.

Sushi is Japanese.
Gimbap (or kimbap) is a popular Korean dish of cooked rice and various fillings rolled in dried seaweed (gim) and sliced into bite-sized pieces, often compared to Japanese sushi but with key differences like seasoned rice (with sesame oil, not vinegar) and cooked fillings.

Background music you heard before Golden was "Strategy" by TWICE, an actual K-Pop group and they also sang, 'Takedown' in the ending credits, not the film version.

A Korean Medicine (KM) doctor is a licensed professional practicing traditional Korean medicine—often called Hanbang—which includes acupuncture, herbal medicine, and cupping, sometimes integrated with Western diagnostic methods. These doctors undergo specialized training in South Korea, often focusing on holistic, personalized treatments such as Sasang typology.

Gwima is The Front Man from 'Squid Game,’ Actor Lee Byung-hun.

36:59 re: Jinu leaving his family behind — so, from the animation alone, he went to the Emperor‘s Palace with his mom and sister and they were turned away at the gates, so from that I would assume that he had expected them to be welcomed, as well.

There are two separate ways to interpret this, I think, and I think both are valid.

1: he made the awful decision to leave them behind, and then Gwima has been whispering in his ear for 400 years and essentially manipulated him into a self-destructive spiral.

2: given the time that Jinu is supposed to be from, the Emperor had a lot of authority, and if he had refused to leave his family behind, they could’ve all been killed for it. And over 400 years, Gwima managed to make Jinu believe that he was a bad person who left them behind willingly when it was actually the only logical decision he could have made in that moment.

I think both interpretations are valid and both interpretations give complexity to his character.

This movie sent me down the Kpop rabbit hole 8 months ago, and I never came up. I loved it so much I built a house and live here now lol

Good reaction guys.
I’m a 53 year old man. I’m not the target audience for this movie, but have been obsessed with it from the start. If you ask me how many reaction videos I’ve watched, my answer is, “all of them.”  Lol

The footage in the credits is not of the singers for this movie, btw. Its of some members from the K-Pop band Twice who did a cover of Takedown to give the music more legitimacy. That's the version that's played during the credits, as well.

For the Grammys, "Golden" was nominated & won Best Song Written For Visual Media (so it's not really nominated for k-pop or for a group song), and  was nominated (but did not win) for Song of the Year,  Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, Best Remixed Recording (David Guetta remix).
For the Oscars, the movie won Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song (for Golden).

6:43 everyone feeling the beat ❤️‍🔥

16:48 - the song playing here is "Love Maybe" which is the main theme song of the k-drama "Business Proposal." The guy who voices Jinu was the male lead of that drama and so this needledrop was a HUGE easter egg for a lot of k-drama fans. That song was featured so many times throughout that drama that the leads made a cover of it too. And so when it was used in this scene in a cheeky way, it was double the surprise and a hilarious moment.

When they started singing together at the end I burst out crying...sisterhood man

Oscar winner for best animated movie and golden for best original song. Truly deserved it. 🏆 🏆

sony wasnt expecting this to big a huge huge hit.

Obligatory "last time the honmoon was golden was when Psy came out with Gangnam Style" comment.

The 3 girls singing at the end credits is from a K-Pop group name twice

Saja Boys' "Your Idol" is heavily inspired by two song from the kpop boy group EXO: "MAMA" & "Obsession" Tho, the songs are lyrically opposite from "Your Idol"; "MAMA" is asking a "your majesty" (which is what "mama" translates to) why people don't love one another anymore & "Obsession" is asking to not be someone's obsession [The "Obsession" music video also features members of the group with glowing patterns not unlike the patterns in KDH~~~]

EXO's song "Love Me Right" also briefly plays when we first see the Saja Boys in their human disguises in the alleyway; one of the few pre-existing songs in the movie~^.^

Actually, Jinu's singing voice is even done by Andrew Choi, who had previously worked on music for EXO. The rapper of EXO, Chanyeol, did a video of him reacting to the movie & when "Free" started he knew who it was right away (They also apparently didn't tell EXO that their song was in the movie; so he was surprised to hear "Love Me Right")~~~

One last little fun bit: EXO has a song called "Cream Soda"^.^

5:30 that was not sushi that was Kimbap it’s Korean

Last major demon incursion was in 2012, and it was held off by a valiant demon hunter named PSY and his hit-song "Gangnam Style"
