Today I’m reacting to “No Rain No Rainbow” by BABYMETAL — and wow… I was not ready for this emotional rollercoaster.
This song shows such a different, softer and more vulnerable side of the band. The atmosphere, the vocals, the powerful live performance — it really touched me. You can feel every note and every emotion.
Sometimes the most beautiful songs are the ones that hit the deepest. 💔🌈
What do you think about this performance? Is this one of BABYMETAL’s most emotional songs?

They played an intro video before this performance as well which referenced the Hiroshima bomb and the black acid rain that fell afterwards and that only added to the emotion.
The video editing is also very good - it is not a coincidence that as Su sings the line "We shall never meet again, but I want to not forget you for ever" the camera focuses on Mikio Fujioka (RIP). This was the last time he played with BABYMETAL before his tragic accident just 3 weeks or so later.
'No Rain, No Rainbow' has been performed live just 7 times. Legend 1999 June 2013, Budokan Black Night March 2014, Tokyo Dome 2016, both nights at Legend S December 2017 and two of the 10 Budokan shows in 2021. Those last two performances also had an intro video with a story about a piano, but it added to the fact that Su also sat at (and on their radio show last week she confirmed she played) the piano midway though the song before a significant (I think 17 second?) break in complete darkness and silence.
Su was not entirely happy with her performance the first time they performed this song at the Legend 1999 concert in June 2013. She felt she was concentrating more on hitting the notes and singing the right lyrics and that she didn't have the life experience to do the song the emotional justice.
It was for this reason that she decided she wasn't ready to record the song for the first album as well. Only when she saw people crying in the audience at a later performance did she realise she could effect people emotionally with her voice and only then did she agree to record the song - it was on the second album.
The song itself is an homage to or inspired by X Japan's classic 'Endless Rain'.
