This game is definitely still playable today. OpenFusion is available to download and play the original game and the updated Academy version

I honestly didn't mind the redesigns. They wanted to go for a serious anime vibe. Which would be difficult and overcomplicated also trying to stick with the variously established art styles.

Plus aging them up gave them an excuse to redesign how they like, without it having to feel canonical.

Love the biblically accurate pronunciation of Numbah 2 and Numbah 5

Honestly, I always liked the redesigns, it really helped sell that it's a more serious setting mixed with familiar characters. rather than the same goofy characters that we'd expect to resolve all of this in goofy fashion

I wonder why they never made any tv specials to promote the game. It have been so cool it they did!

Dexter being the chad as always makes me so happy the redesigns look awesome too.

As someone who loves Kid Icarus Uprising, I like that this universe's iteration of The Devil wants to help the good guys fight off an alien species because "Earth is MY flower to plunder, not theirs!"

I was obsessed with these designs as a kid, i wanted to play this so bad but my pc at the time was so bad it couldn't run it.

What's weird to me is how Cartoon Network never made this into a cartoon series, which I feel would have garnered a much large audience and possibly make it financially successful.

Man, I would have loved this, but I had grown out of my Cartoon Network phase by then. Thanks for giving me context for this, it makes sense Dexter would be the lead in this considering that to this day Dexter's Lab is considered the flagship series for CN.

The story behind the DMCA takedown actually started by a former "fan" who got really heated that their requests was being ignored by the devs. Despite what they requested, it  wouldn't fit for the game. So they falsely claim at Cartoon Network that the devs are making money off the fan projects (despite the devs have talked to CN before they promised they would never do it). And CN sent the DMCA.
Unfortunately, the last I heard asshole "fan" that he was planning to harass one of devs when the dev moved on to a original project.

But there's a silver lining that there's a open soure fusion fall project. Simply as OpenFusion

God I was all over this game as a kid.  For like a solid year it was the only thing I played, and I spent years as part of a Fusionfall RP forum with my friends.  Man, what a time this was.

The one thing I liked about Retro was they were planning on added the Rowdyruff Boys.

This was the coolest thing ever when it first came out. The designs were my favorite, especially how they gave the characters a more anime look, and the companions you collect are cute little chibi versions of notable characters. 💚

I like the redesigns for the most part. Some characters don't translate to the animeesque style well, like the Eds for example, but I like the unified art style since it makes everyone feel like they're from the same world and give FusionFall a unique style of its own. If you put up a picture of someone from FusionFall, you'll always know what game it was.

I wanted to play this SO bad as a kid, but we couldn't afford the subscription. If they were to remake it as a self contained game with a multi-player option, I'd buy it in a heartbeat!

I remember another reason one of the devs said some characters look different is because some of the shows already went off the air at that time of release and the game would depict who they are now and what they’ve been doing since then hence why some characters are aged up

The lore implications of an alien race that can't be defeated by the likes of Aku and Him are wild. Also, I always wished that CN would make a Star Wars: The Clone Wars style action show adapting Fusion Fall

I liked a ton of the redesigns, Dexter being my favorite. Bro looked like an actual professional scientist that I’d gladly trust with my life. Plus it helped make their fusion counterparts look more menacing
