In this episode, we introduce Paddy Field RECORDS, located in Naka, Ibaraki!

Paddy Field RECORDS is a record shop in Naka, Ibaraki, opened in 2016. Surrounded by peaceful rice fields, which inspired the shop's name, it offers a wide range of mainly Western music, with a focus on jazz and Latin, as well as Brazilian music, Afro, ethnic music, new wave, and more.

Owner Kobayashi has been searching for records since the 1990s, building relationships with overseas dealers through letters and fax to find Brazilian pressings and other records that were difficult to come across in Japan. When selecting records, he places importance not simply on whether they are original pressings, but on the overall quality of the sound—including the recording, mix, and pressing. Around 50 records are added each time the shop opens, including records that are not listed online.

The shop also offers a great listening experience through its audio system combining JBL and McIntosh equipment. It is a deep and fascinating record shop in the countryside, where you can take your time discovering rare records and music you may not have encountered before.
