Okay, why is no one commenting on the fact that you have THE CUTEST nephew?!

Sometimes reducing the stitch size can make it easier to push the carriage as the machine doesn't have to pull as much yarn through to form a loop, along with waxing the yarn to reduce friction. This combined with increasing the needle spacing can make it possible to knit bulkier yarns, although you have to keep an eye on split stitches due to the yarn not physically fitting into the hook :)

Wishing I had found this several week’s ago when I started my first machine knit project - a ‘simple’ rib knit scarf as a present with ‘Arran’ weight yarn (in the uk) on my KH881 and KR850.
Eventually spotted the hint in the manual that said you could knit heavier weights by skipping needles, but was so close to packing those machines up & putting them in the loft. It turned out so much neater than my hand knitting!
Next machine project is definitely using a DK weight 😂

Thanks, so much for making this video. I'm new to using this kind of knitting machine. All the manuals make a point of recommending a "medium weight" yarn and tension 6 in every example of whatever technique you're trying to learn. I'd guess a lot of hand knitters would consider DK to be medium weight. Thanks again. This is working better on every other needle, but the tension is still any body's guess.

Don't have enough weights. Strung two rubber bands together. One end on the cast-on bar, the other under my foot. Worked quite well.

Can you make a video like this but including the ribber please? I have so much dk yarn I want to make scarves with and I'd love to be able to make them ribbed. I havent had luck sourcing a reasonably priced mid gauge machine + ribber in my country so I was wondering if it could be done on my standard gauge machine.

I tried this in the beginning because that's what the manual also says, but I'm not a fan. You can feel the machine is being forced doing something it really shouldn't. I ended up getting a bulky

Mine just about takes DK on every other needle and will take every needle but it complains. Im new to machine knitting and trying out different yarns. Got a charity shop (goodwill) cone of 2 ply and works up lovely but is too thin for a garment. Tried a baby 3 ply, again nice to work but splits like hell so no transferring. Sock yarn which I think is 4 ply works the best but in the UK it always sold stripey. I think a foray to Ebay is needed.

I wonder if a person could simulate a mid-gauge machine using a standard gauge machine. The idea would be to take every third needle out of work (two in-work, one out of work). The stitches would be uneven, but the fact that you pulled the piece after you knitted it to improve the stitches makes me wonder if you could pull the piece after knitting (using two-in, one-out setup) to even up the stitches in the setup I am proposing. Would that work? If so, would it work better for DK weight yarn than just a straight standard gauge or straight bulky gauge machine?

I have a question about knitting with 3ply mohair (as chunky as the first yarn you used in this video probably), is there a way to get it to be loose and very airy like a hand knit mohair look or is it not possible with this machine?
