My grandfather a kokoda veteran, grandma (army nurse) and their 8yr old twins did a complete lap of Australia in 1968 with a HK Monaro and a box trailer. The Holden dealership said it would be a writeoff if he made it back 😅

When my grandfather returned a 6 months later, he handed the salesperson a muffler and said can your boys put this back on 😅

The Monaro was completely fine and I think the story even made the local paper 📃

He did admit to getting completely bogged once because grandma wanted to see some flowers in WA 😅 After being stuck for 3 days a truck eventually pulled them out. Some of her ashes were sprinkled on those flowers 💐 😢

Sadly many years later the Monaro got wiped out by a drunk driver and grandfather bought an XF wagon which towed a caravan 3x around Australia and multiple trips to far north Queensland 😀

That eventually blew a motor, so he bought a FG falcon and complained it had too munch power 😂

He stopped driving at 98 and drove a registered mobility scooter to the shops and Cafe every week until he was 102 ❤

Honestly makes me chuckle when I see people in F350s on 37s custom canopy with a matching caravan 😂 With starlink, AC, coffee machine and the list goes on 😅

How times have changed 😅

Tinge of sadness knowing that the trip is nearly over.it’s been an absolute pleasure following your journey and looking forward to seeing many more.
Cheers

Hey Cam I am one of those tragics who could never get good crackling on pork belly, well no longer, I followed your advice and my hubbie is an extremely happy person, yes now I can do a great pork belly. He asked me to say thank you 😊

Hi from New Zealand Another great video with great scenery and information. Your cooking is restaurant standard and we could see Cam on MasterChef. That lighting storm is something else and crazy. Yes sound travels at 330m per second so 3 seconds is about 1 Km. Light travels at 300,000 kms per second to give you some realitivity the moon is 386,000 kms away. Have a great week and keep up the great videos thanks Jono

My wife lived on the transline when she was a kid. I plan to do a roadtrip on the old transline access road including the old Nullarbor track. That camp looks like the one I plan to stop at when I head east in four weeks. Handy to see what it looks like. There are no weather radar systems on the Ayre Highway thats why you are not seeing the rain. Most people say the Nullarbor is goring because they just stare at the white line. Great series

Did it in 1967 with my folks & sister in an EH Holden. It was rough unsealed from Norseman to Ceduna. Plenty of bulldust holes. If you met someone coming the other way you stopped for a chat & road update. At Ivy Tanks, me, aged 15, wandered around a truck & trailer & discovered the truckie having his wicked way on the running board with the waitress from the roadhouse. Quite an eye opener for a boy from the bush!😄 Did it in 1976, when the SA part had just been sealed, on a new alignment & there were heaps of dead skittled wombats.

Your on the edge of radar range.

Noooo!! we all know what is coming by you hitting WA. You are by far my most favorite travelling family. It can't be 12 months already? All of you are just so damn likeable. Tiff has a chef for a husband, but she is also the one forever on her phone with the non-envious job of finding 'where next'. I know there are a couple of episodes to go, but we are gonna miss you guys!

I came across the Nullarbor in 1970 in a fc Holden with no spare tyres we didn't drive at night there was still 250kms of dirt on the south Australian side

What a storm, crazy and just goes to show that mother nature really is the boss lady. My uncle crossed the Nullarbor, did the Kimberly and much of what is now the lap in the early to mid 50's in a FJ Holden. He had a map of Australia on the rear quarter glass with a red line showing where he travelled. He was a bit of a dare devil took the car through many water crossings and drove lots of what are now considered 4WD only tracks. Now that's adventuring

Wow that storm was epic I love a good thunderstorm the louder the better get the adrenaline pumping ⛈️🌩️⛈️🌩️

Awesome episode as usual, Pilbara storms are next level too.
Imagine doing the Hardie Ferodo back in the day, we have become super soft.
Nasi Goreng looked spot on.
Keep up the awesome work

Thanks for sharing this trip on youtube. Been great to see the stuff you got up to.

@stewyshaw 6 months ago

There's a setting in the BOM app to turn on the radar coverage area, so it would be greyed out where there wasn't any rain showing

@garybaker508 6 months ago

We first crossed the Nullarbor in 1961, I was nearly10 at the time, my father drove the new J5 Bedford truck with all our possessions on and mother drove the new FB Holden ute with canopy. We left the bitumen at the Iron Knob turnoff on the Whyalla road and apart for a few towns and the two passes we hit the bitumen 8kms from Norseman. We did the trip by car every year at Xmas time for many years to see the relies.
I know of a farmer who drove his tractor towing his combine, header and plough from Wudinna on the Eyre Peninsular to Pingelly in 1948 at 5mph {8kph} whilst his wife drove the truck. People today complain if the road is a little rough.
The old Nullarbor roadhouse is a replica and they started serving fuel in 1956. The new roadhouse was built when the Highways Dept. decided where the new highway would go.

In Colorado, we avoid hiking or camping during summer afternoons. Thats when the storms roll through.
At altitude, your chances of getting struck by lightning increase exponentially. If your hair starts to rise, walk, don't run, out of there. We ran into a ranger at a place we were going to camp. There was a burned out tree. He said, don't camp here. This tree has been struck 13 times already this year.😮😮😮
Chef Cam strikes again😂. Tiff's a lucky gal😊
Cheers guys🎉🎉
