Today we’re stepping inside one of Detroit’s true old-school dining institutions — Mario’s Restaurant.
Serving Detroit since 1948, Mario’s is one of the city’s classic Italian supper clubs, holding onto a style of dining that has largely disappeared. We’re talking white tablecloths, old-school service, tableside preparations, multiple dining and banquet rooms, and even ballroom dancing on the weekends.
For nearly 80 years, generations of Detroiters have come here for dinners, celebrations and nights out on the town. But after all these years, does the food still live up to the history?
Today we’re trying some of Mario’s Italian classics, including the fried calamari and manicotti, while taking a look inside this Detroit time capsule.
