A perfect example of "write what you know": Ben Affleck's father had worked as a janitor at Harvard, his mother was a math teacher, Matt Damon's mother was a professor of childhood development who studied abused children, both Affleck and Damon grew up working-class in Boston, and Damon attended Harvard briefly. They integrated their life experiences in a brilliant way

Skylar's utter devistation when Will tells her he doesn't love her is so raw, so real that I feel her pain and forget I'm watching a movie.

Robin finally won his Academy Award for this.  It was magical.  Billy Crystal, his best friend, was hosting.  When they hugged, I cried.  I miss Robin.  Thanks for the watch.

Its ben afflecks monologue about how Will owes it to his friends to not waste his talents that actually pushes will in the right direction .

Don’t blame yourself for not seeing this yet.
“It’s not your Fault”

8:34 “They’re so mean to each other” 😂 That’s how guys talk to each other, breaking balls constantly

Everyone (rightly) raves about Robin Williams, but Minnie Driver and Stellan Skarsgård are absolutely incredible in it as well.

The “It’s not your fault” scene wrecks me every time

48:30 FINALLY someone understands that both the professor and Sean care about him, only in different ways.

Carly says "easy on the language", they're surprised about people getting in street fights, and amazed that Dunkin's is everywhere, clearly they've never been to Boston lol

When Robin Williams passed away, Matt Damon reportedly went to the bench where they filmed the monologue to feel close to him. This movie catapulted Matt Damon to being a top box office star and Robin Williams will be remembered as one of the all time greats.

The way Matt Damon cried in Robin’s arms… he sounded like a child, like every bit of his childhood that he had suppressed was finally being released. Such a perfect climax. This is one of my favorites movies of all time.

The “Fart” story was ad libbed by Robin!!! Matt’s laugh was real!!!

52:51 Robin Williams improvised the “stole my line”. When the director and Matt Damon heard it they knew it was perfect for the movie.

Minnie Driver is a fantastic actress. Her transition from conviction about her past to her breakdown to "i don't love you" - blows my mind every time.

What still amazes me about this movie is that we never did see what Williams' wife looked like. Any other filmmaker would've shown that character holding her photograph or something similar. It's as if he doesn't need a photograph, a poor substitute for the richness of his memory of her. But it also allows the audience to imagine in their own way such a person, leaving it to our imagination for it would be impossible to live up to each person's idea of such a loss and that shows amazing trust in its audience. Great films allow that. How each performance delivers more than what we see on screen.

I grew up without internet, but watching Cassie's love affair with cinema has been one of the great joys of the internet.

I love how Sean starts out condescending calling Will chief and sport. In the final breakthrough, he endearingly calls him son.

Robin's last line was an improv.

One beautiful touch that sums up their journey: Robin spends the whole movie calling Will "chief", "sport", and other nicknames.

In their goodbye, his last words to him are "Good luck, son."
