Someone Left This Coffin Window Open...

Dead Good Walks

These unique burial caskets allowed family members and visitors to view the deceased without opening the coffin, a tradition that can still be found in certain mausoleums and historic burial sites. Walking through the cemetery offered a fascinating glimpse into local funeral customs, history, and the craftsmanship behind these remarkable memorials.

Placing coins/money on graves is a symbolic gesture of respect, remembrance, and connection, with roots in ancient traditions and modern military customs, you sometimes see coins on British graves.

Thanks Dan, made me giggle more than once.. that's another reason we love ya... That brick one with the white mortar, looks good, but water will get trapped and bricks will rot faster...that last one though how sad is that.. it is probable also that the remains in that bottomless coffin were disturbed or even removed, perhaps just rotted through though, and gravity did the rest.. that is the nicer way to think of it

I know it's not good for the coffins but I enjoy seeing the greenery growing in there.

a great walk through, like tiny crowded banks or shops. I think the graffiti says Don't Fall Asleep from an online translator.

The coffins at the last one look like they were showed into the niches even though they don't fit in any more . Very sad that they always damage the windows of these coffins , why don't they leave the deceased ones alone ? :_omg:

Why would anyone like to see their family member slowly rotting away in a glass window coffin.

By the looks of it,these maintenance guys use various mausoleums to store their work tools.

Lovely little cemetery, back in the 90s several of the mausolea were open and we would go inside. Don't miss out on Chacarita if you're still in Buenos Aires. Some major decay and open niches, skulls, bones and offerings/macumbas laying around. Plus the brutalist pavilion is quite the sight.
