Hi a German here: you gotta drink wheat beers in a glass to get the yeast from the bottom to balance the flavor. Never drink it out of the bottle if you can avoid it hehe :)

Scotty's version of The Art of Motorcycle Maintenance,  ×10.

Fun video and you were right about most things.  You can indeed ride the bike 1000 miles in a day.  I know because I did it with my new 1974 R90S.  I bought it brand new from House of Yamaha/BMW in Santa Monica, CA in late 1973.  They got 2 in and I bought one of them.  Tommy Smothers of the Smothers Brothers comedy team bought the other.

There was an event back then called the California 1000 that ran out of L.A. Harley Davidson.  The purpose was to cover 1000 miles in a weekend starting at midnight in downtown L.A.  I covered 1000 miles on my 90S by midnight the first day.  Unfortunately, I'd missed some turns and had to backtrack so when I hit 1000 miles I still had over 100 miles left to go to get back to the Harley dealership.  I did the last 100 miles Sunday morning after a few hours sleep.  No matter.  For me it was an epic ride, one of my best in 56 years of riding.  And the engine does indeed let you run all day at high speeds.  I ran across the Mohave Desert for a couple of hours at speeds of 100-115mph.   The bike in fact would do an indicated 125mph topped out but the last few mph took some time.  As you suggested, the bike just runs.  It doesn't fuss, it doesn't shake, doesn't vibrate much, it just motors down the road as fast as you want to go.   It is over all the best all-around motorcycle I've ever owned.  And almost 50 years later the looks are still stunning.

BMW has and will always make the best motorcycles in the world. I switched over from Harleys and Japanese bikes 5 years ago and will never ride anything else again.

I owned 1974 R90S for about 12 years and it was one of my favorites. After a $2,000 purchase cost me about $1,500 in parts, tires, fluids etc to get road worthy. From there nothing regular maintenance oil changes, tires, greasing the splines, tune ups. Sold it for $5,000 to help defray one of my kids college tuition- a shame miss that bike but I’ve had many great bikes and many great memories.

I drove a 1975 R90S in the same gray smoke paint for 20 years.  My first bike!  You know more about bikes than beer.  That beer has a shelf-life of a maximum of 3 months.  A dropoff in flavor in 2 months.  It needs to be poured if it is fresh, and the bottle yeast mixed  The sample you drank was likely rotten, thus the banana taste.  If you drank it in Germany on draft you would be STUNNED!

I now own an 2018 BMW GSA 1200

Scottie is as good as it gets - an absolute gem.  Wonderful to see some of his operation.  On the bike, I believe the standard R90/6 may be the "best."

I always admired this model and for me not just one of the best BM's but one of the best superbikes of the seventies, the word build quality springs to mind 👍.

I owned a 1974 R90s, enjoyed it for over 130k of wonderful miles, had 2 issues with the tranny, 4th gear had weak dogs and, well, I broke them, but only after it had endured 75k worth of spirited riding, then a spring in the shifter broke putting the bike in 2 gears at the same time, if this had happened at speed there would have been a lock up at the rear wheel, then there were the spoke issues, I kept exceeding the tensile strength of one or two spokes, so that problem was dealt with when I bought Lester wheels. Many thanks to San Diego's Brattin motors for fixing my screw ups

That was a fun little video. I have 2 airheads and am the Air Marshall for my local chapter. You need to do a little learning about how to properly prepare your Weiss beer for consumption! Rolling the bottle to mix all of the ingredients before you open it is one and that particular beer absolutely deserves a proper glass! Commercially brewing in the same location since 1040! The signature clove and banana flavours are a by product of the yeast. I have over 1000 bottles in my cellar. 🙂

You need to come by the shop again Bill and hang out with us for a bit. We always have a good time and there are always cool projects to check out.

I owned a 76 R90/7

My best friend had two R90s's, and I had the R100RS. We'd swap bikes sometimes and of all the bike's I've ridden, the R90 had the most comfortable seating position of any bike.

I’ve known Scottie since the early 90s. I just searched for his shop on here bc I’m getting into custom bikes (cafe racers and bobbers) and want to build my own in coming years. I would love if he did a channel showing his builds. Scottie is also a helluva drummer.

When I was 10, I saw a spotless R90/S parked on the street on my way home from school and couldn’t believe my eyes. I then decided I would sooner or later get that motorcycle. In 1991, after some small bikes I bought an very old and tattered R90/S like the one in this video: first series, button switches, plain seat, undrilled discs and 14 mm front axle. I pulled it apart and rebuilt it to the best standards I could afford and I still have it sitting in my garage. I drive it occasionally. I have always been a polígamous motorcyclist and so have always had more than one love. I wouldn’t know if the R90/S is the best BMW ever, although it finished with flying colours the task of updating BMW’s offer which started with the /5 models at a moment when the very powerful British industry went down the toilet. You can still see the odd one on the road in my country (Spain) although fewer as anti emission laws ban older vehicles. Many thanks for the video!

Andechs Doppelbock is my favorite....man, smooth and delicious. Pairs with steak better than wine. Love that beer and love the 1980's R80 RT and R100 RT.

Always loved Beemers, never could afford one. I love the toaster tank years.

These airheads are indestructable 🍻

Those models were turning my head from day one.
