Swim weather in Las Vegas is 9 months a year. I see on Zillow that houses with pools and paid for solar always appraise higher than houses without. Know your local area do's and don'ts.

What about all the exterior "bump-outs" and mini roofs on a house? When I look at newer built homes with all these roof lines, I always think re-roofing will cost a fortune. Insurance makes you re-roof every 30 years.

I’ve never done trends. I just live with what I have, kind of an eclectic style.

"Trends" are largely the product of manufacturers, builders, designers, and realtors who tell us what "buyers expect" and what is "dated" and should be replaced just to keep consumers spending money. But not all buyers "expect" and not all "dated" is bad or unwanted. If a trend is truly "dated," it means it wasn't any good even when it was being pushed as the latest and greatest But there is nothing wrong, per se, with dated when the item is in good condition. And buyers who MUST have the latest trend are really just shallow, materialistic, and unartistic.

Look at the location, general condition of the house and floor plan. Flooring, paint, countertops, cosmetics are easy to change.
Don't build your dream house too dreamy. In other words don't build a stupid taste specific custom house; build a sensible house with resale in mind.

We don't pay attention to trends! We think it's just a pep talk to try and make people change what they like into a money pit of construction and prestige furniture buying that you literally have to sell of your neighbors souls to afford! Like your own style, whatever it is! You can do trendy or just do what appeals to yourself, after all who is going to live in your home? Someone who criticizes you for not being trendy? Or yourself who lives there! We love Scandi style, open floor plan and green plants, we don't don't care about what styles designers are trying to sell us! We do us, not them!
