🔴Amazing Talk - the MEV1 is an incredible addition to the lineup! And thanks so much Josh for your kind mention of the current exhibition, "Sublime Light - Celebrating Ten Years of the Leica SL System with a Decade of Images Made in the High Himalayas" on view at Leica Store Miami now till February 2026.✨ Happy Holidays Leica Friends!

Josh is so happy.... finally got his perfect camera. ❤

I wish you could have spent more time on David’s superb pictures of Italy. And, I did buy the pins!

So informative, learned so much, thank you. Awww Enzo! I have started the battery customization trend as well.

Thanks a lot 🙏👍👏

See you next year and merry christmas 🙂

The ergonomics of the Leica M bodies is fantastic. I’ve never felt the need or want for a thumb rest. So using my Visoflex 2 is never a problem and having a tilting viewfinder is awesome.

The 90 Summicron PRE ASPH is one of the best portrait lenses ever made

Looks like a wonderful extension of an already awesome “camera/lens system”.  No actual need to follow that road but a viable option for some use cases.

I have m ev1 and I loveeee it..

I`ve been an RF user since the `80`s. M3 double stroke and M2 originally. This is an interesting model offering greater flexibility.

It is perfect for those special lenses like the 0.95, 21mm and the 90mm.
I enjoy mine.

I can finally chuck the tri-elmar in my bag more often

@56:42 Knowing the relative focusing distance may also be used for in-camera aberration correction of some “difficult” lenses.

I have been using the ev for a couple of months now having had eye problems with rangefinders past years . With help of magnification and peak , it is fully usable with form (weight and size ) of an m6.

I really like this camera, played with it for a couple of hours …

My main problem with it is the price of $8995.

Isn’t it a Q3 ($6735) minus IBIS, Video, tilty screen, autofocus, lens (!) for $2200 more ?
Or a SL3 ($7485) minus IBIS, Video, tilty screen, multi shot, autofocus, SL lens compatibility for $1500 more ?
Or dare I say a Sony A7R (currently $3300) minus all of the above for $5500 more ?

This camera should cost around $7000 to keep the in-house pecking order, but not more. For years Leica argued the price of an M comes from the 130 part rangefinder. Now an EVF version is only $1000 cheaper ?

Again, I think it’s a great camera and it will attract new customers and make existing ones switch due to eyesight, wide or long lens usage etc. And I get it that Leica has to be careful to keep cannibalization of the M11’s at bay.

I know it’s hand-built in Germany, low production etc. But this price is outrageous for a fully electronic camera with a manual lens mount.

Useful review, thanks. I am very disappointed by the lack of the most useful feature: a PIP for the zoomed-in focusing check while still being able to see the whole main picture and keep framing under control without swapping back and forth. This instead is 2000 camera technology, and this is unacceptable at that price.

Maybe next one is going to be L mount camera with OVF that works similarly to  fuji xpro series or contax G2.

Please forward the following to Leica.

I purchased the M EV1 as soon as released in USA.  I am loving it.  I am excited to be able to get sharp focus every time with wide angle and summilux at 1.4.

I have 4 Leica lenses purchased 10 years ago,, and some Voigtlander wides that had been collecting dust.   I had missed sharp focus too many times with my  Leica MP type 240, so I gave up using it, and never upgraded the camera until the EV 1.

However, I have always loved manual focus and manually adjusting exposure from my days with the Canon AE1 and F-1.  While my favorite focus screen on old Canon being the split prism, those old systems also had exchangeable focusing screen one of which was a matte focusing screen.  The Leica M EV1 focus aid reminds me of the 'old-school' matte focusing screen.  I have been able to achieve perfect focus on the EV 1.  The EV finder is more grainy in low light, but I can still focus, as the best image realized in low light EVF is actually in perfect focus on the sensor.

I do not know if it is possible for Leica to develop software to allow different focusing "screens'  different from a matte screen.  If they can, perhaps future firmware updates can add that option.  The current matte screen works but could be better.   Possibly an electronic prism could improve, or at least be an option.  On the old Canon, the split prism would pop in and out of clarity as the lens focus was toggled.  Not everyone liked the prism necessarily, however, Canon offered multiple types of screens.  I think it would be great if Leica could add options to focus aid.  I agree that focus peaking is not as satisfying as seeing a clear image with my own eye.

The short of it, I am using my old lenses and looking to buy new lenses.   I didn't even complain that there is no IBIS, as I can adjust the shutter speed and ISO accordingly.  I enjoy the small form factor of this system, and if IBIS made it as bulky as the type 240 cameras, I am not sure how I would like that.  The point of my Leica is to control the exposure and focus depending on the artistic image I am seeking,   Also, that the M camera, and many lenses are compact.

I have other cameras for other purposes, yet the automatic nature of other systems tend to make me to follow the quick and easy path.  The Leica makes me think more about what I am doing and why I am doing it.  So, I now have the EV 1 as the upgrade to my type 240.  The M11 wasn't enough for me.

I had an M10, M10-P, M10M and an M11, all sold because my eye sight is terrible and I couldn't deal with anymore out of focus photos. When I heard the announcement on the M EV1, I knew this camera was made for me. My Leica M EV1 has arrived and I absolutely LOVE it!! 🥰 A lot of Leica owners sound like air cooled 911 owners. What I've learned over the years, especially as a product manager, that progressing is actually a good thing. Nothing wrong changing the formula, it's 2025 folks, almost 2026.
