OP sounds like my boyfriend. He had his life in order when I met him. I was a Lab Technician/ phlebotomist I was his favorite Phlebotomist because he had deep veins. Just solid. I was a widow finished raising my kids. Just two solid people. No BS. Just what we both needed. I never found it necessary to be digging in his life or wallet. But damn he had this entitled Ex. Thought she owned him. Like his name was tattooed on her ass and vice versa. Always came around harassed me at my job. Why do guys like this always get crazy exes?
