I miss narrow cars.  The center console I can live without.  Narrow gives me room is the garage and peace of mind on the road.

Looks more like a Suzuki Ignis, than a Jimny from the side to me.

Just voted the best small EV of 2025 by the Norwegian EV association. We've had ours for 6 months now and we couldn't be happier.

So much of this car reminds me of the Skoda Yeti, a car that really should return as an EV.

I’ve had a Cross for two months, my first EV. Twice a month I do a 200 mile round trip with just one charging stop, the rest is mainly local tootling about. The car is really easy to drive and manoeuvre (360 camera is fantastic), efficient, comfortable, and perfect for my needs. Plus, it makes me smile! If you’re looking for something in this class, definitely get a test drive.

ive owned one since April. big battery, small rims version with an "as needed" to the equipment. i went to 3 different festivals in it, drove between 450 and 500 miles in a day multiple times. great for camping, great efficency specially if u keep it under 70mph. the only thing that kind of holds it back are strong side winds. but i had no problem driving at 130kmh/80mph otherwise. v2l is awesome for kettles and toasters, little less awesome for fridges and charging your electronics since it consumes quite a bit of power besides the power being consumed by the actual electronics. the consumption driving to and from my workplace in the summer averaged 9.6kWh/100km aka 6.5miles per kWh but consider the fact that the road is mostly straight with 50kmh speed limit.

So ... In December 2024 I bought a used ex-demo Kona Electric Ultimate (SX2) and then a couple of months later I was at the dealership for a small Warranty job. "What the bloody Hell is that?" I enquired of the Service fella. He told me "The new Inster" and I swear to you I could feel my Credit Card twitch! Afterwards I was looking it over and. the Sales fella popped over to ask if I'd like a Test Drive.  "Not on your Nellie!" said I. "I know if I drive this I'll end up doing something very silly indeed, and I've to to explain it to Mrs T!".

If I still have a licence in a few years time I might just seriously consider one of these to replace the Kona. Used prices, I think you're right, are going to be fantastic for what you'll get with one of these.

The last car that quite got under my skin quite as much as the Inster is the BMW i3S REx that I had for a while, in Melbourne Red and Black.

A great review as ever, Gentlemen.

Great review, had my Inster cross about a month now brilliant little car (also my first EV). Just right for my wife and I in our old age.

I test drove the Inster and the R5 back to back one day and there is no question which one I would go for. The R5 is a great package and looks good, but the back seat is a deal breaker. The Inster's practicality is astonishing and it's got personality too. The steering wheel and stalks from the Ioniq makes it feel more expensive than it is, and the ride was great even at higher speeds.
No, If I wanted a fun to drive hatch with no usable back seat, I'd go with a used Cooper SE instead of the R5. As a practical and fun small car, nothing beats the Inster.

I've now had mine for 3 months and am absolutely happy with it.

I have always had an interest in small cars and generally prefer them to larger models. Many, many years ago I saw a quote that went along the lines of "It is easy to design and build a great large car, it takes genius to design and build a great small car". I suspect that is true even today.
One of the changes I have noticed is that when I bought my Fiat 500, followed by a Renault 5 ( the 20th century originals!) they were called small cars and not city cars. Now cars are being touted as being perfect for the city. My  Fiat 500 was certainly ideal for the city but was also perfectly capable of travelling long distances when I needed it to.
What I'm leading up to is wondering whether the current idea that city dwellers are waiting for the Renault Twingo and EV versions of Kei cars ( with 30kwh batteries and slow charging rates) is accurate. I feel we need more cars like the Inster that are small enough to be great in the City but have a large enough battery and decent charging rates to be equally at home on l9nger journeys. I love the look of the forthcoming Twingo but I would probably put my money down on a low mileage Inster if the price was crucial. The Inster can do duty as an only car, a city car is probably a second car for most.

Love my level 2 - so practical - just under £10k total for 3 year lease 10000 mile/year. Good value, 2 year servicing intervals. Negatives - turning circle not great and heated seats are too hot 😂- size means it fits well into our garage - not many’s other cars do fit these days

I've had my O2 since June and I'm very pleased with it.  It was delivered within a few weeks, unlike most of its rivals, which were put on the market long before UK supplies were available.  Only criticism is the turning circle, which is not as good as my previous Fiat 500e.  Mind you, there is far less wheel arch intrusion into the foot well - the RHD 500e is very cramped. As there is also amazing headroom, steering wheel and seat adjustment, it is the standout choice for a tall person like me.

"mine's got a shiny end!" " yeh but, mine's ribbed!" All said with a certain hand movement.  Sorry guys that had be in stitches lolol. Nice little car though.

I saw my first Inster in the wild,  yesterday. It's a real cutie patootie I thought. :) As someone who spent over a month camping in my Atto3 while driving around Australia, the ability to be able to lay the front seats all the way forward gets two thumbs up from me.
I like that there's an option without a sun roof (with a sun roof, interior car temps during an Aussie summer reach 80C or more)

What a deal these will be in about 3 years , that’s if anyone will part with theirs 😂 .

I have had mine since May (an 02), approaching 6000 miles now, and I love it. My third EV and by far the best. Its size is great on narrow roads and in town but it’s also fine on the motorway, very efficient too. Range is good. Before I get carried away it will not suit everyone, the 4 seats and its small size may not meet your needs. However,  it does not feel small, the seating is very flexible and it can lug a surprising amount of stuff about.

We love our i10. We've been waiting for an electric version for years. It's great to see that it is still Tardis like inside. The Inster's features sound great. I'm just trying to get my head around the exterior styling.

Always love your reviews guys.  See quite a few of these where I live in Australia, really like the light interior option like you have in your review similar colour to my Kona EV interior(2024) not a fan of dark interiors.  Very cute cars and they can go the distance if required.

I love that so many elements of this car are parts bin, like the key, the driver display and main display have just been lifted from the old Kona, and the steering wheel, maybe from the current Kona?
