Came for the climate science but learning how flexible the presenter-meteorologist has to be regarding the length of the segment was fascinating as well - something to consider for every kind of presentation, really

Interesting interview, people experience weather directly and it’s important for people to connect changing weather to climate change.  Nothing will change unless people can connect to climate change.

As a CC addict i feel the chats views and comments are few. Certainly expect them to keep increasing!

Todays chat was light and very engaging especialy for simple folk like myself.

The joy of hearing two scientists able to swop details on a subject they are clearly passionate about, was so refreshing.

The positivity projected to us through personal experience was infectious.

Historicaly i have recognised that women scientists are rare and often still so under valued and under rated. Not here though.

By touching on 'the womans perspective' using  examples of  scientists personal take on the matter, you two ladies may have set a new trend. Could i suggest that  here we see an avenue for publication that asks the viewer one if they care, and two if they realise that there is a way out. Ie to start by believing that small changes are worthwile. Whether its litter picking or paying off a debt in small amounts every chance they have.

Fantastic interview ... more akin to watching a table across the room as you work your way through a bottle of wine and put the world to right. Quite emotional and triggering so many different things I would have loved to interject with.

Particularly, the problem of being asked for x'000 words and writing 2x (in my case it was 'effects of North Sea Oil drilling' using benthic faunal data for my MSc dissertation for which I was required to provide a 30k word document but found myself shaving the initial 80k words down to 40 thousand.

There is just so much to discuss and it has been a delight to hear you both. Thank you.

that mortgage repayment analogy is actually powerful. we're going to see effects on similar scales... small visible change across a few years, real impact across a couple of decades - it puts something that can feel distant back into a human timescale that people can relate to... if you can actually afford a mortgage these days 8-/

Great stuff. This interview convinced me to buy her first book. Just ordered. I am a doctor who literally teaches a class at a medical school called "The Health Impacts of the Climate Crisis with Causes and Solutions", just taught it recently, wish I had found this a bit earlier lol. That said, I look forward tk see if im missing anything or ways to present them for later.

I have always taken an interest in the weather, and I could have told you that the climate is changing even if I had not heard of the science. We have no television and had not previously hear of Laura Tobin so I have no opinion of her. When I lived on the coast and spent time on the water, the Shipping Forecast was the most relevant. These days I live far from the sea and get the Met Office forecast on Youtube. I know all their presenters are meteorologists, and I enjoy their analyses of weather patterns, and the influence of climate change.

Raining, I'm already envy :( I'm in Indonesia and it hasn't rained since forever at this point, my fish pond has dried up since months ago and I lost like 20 kg of fish, we tried to fill up the pond over and over but it kept drying up and we gave up

out of curiosity has anyone ever figured out  the physics behind how fast glacier ice CAN melt?
I often hear things like "oh it will be centuries, or even 1,000 years" but is that backed up by physics or is it just an educated guess?
I ask because I once saw a thing about the end of the last glacial period, where glaciers in Norway that wend into the sea left tidal marks.
That is when the tide was in it lifted the glaciers, and when it was out it bluntly dropped them.
This left marks in the sea floor.
They were able to measure that between full tide, and low tide these glaciers were losing meters of distance, and who knows how much thickness.
So I've always wondered just what is the fastest speed these things can disappear?
Not that they will disappear as fast (or faster) than they did then but it would be nice to know the hard physics limit of melting.
(Providing there IS a hard limit.)
Maybe it just reacts to continuous warming by continuously speeding up.

Oh and the other thing I hear is people saying "it will be worse in poor countries".
I don't think that's factual.
We might think it will be worse there, but we don't know that.
What I DO know is that Earth is a closed system, and that means climate change will affect everywhere all at the same time.
The exact effects will be different in different areas, but there's no guarantee that our different effects won't be every bit as devastating as what happens in the tropics or the polar regions.
When it comes to talking about weather, we Canadians will give anyone a run for their money.
We compulsively talk about it. all the time.

John Coleman was a TV weatherman, awarded the AMS (American Meteorological Society) in 1983, and had started  "theWeatherChannel" /24-hr/day weather information.    
John Coleman was the worst of Climate Change Deniers....  So forgive Americans that are reserved in appreciation of a TV weather broadcaster that ain't all about personality.

If more knowledgeable people had cried on air over the last 25 years it might have been possible to prevent at least some of the effects of climate change. It's the heartless, emotionless, calculating, greedy people who have brought us to this point.
