He has too many bad faith arguments, it’s rage bait and sensational garbage, but his talent for the theatrical and speaking is what gets him views. He might not enjoy the game, so he wants everyone who is enjoying the series currently to be as miserable. He doesn’t want to accept other people have great experiences with remake and rebirth, it’s like….blasphemy to him. And then he’s up on social media playing victim when those of us JUST EXISTING and enjoying the game is who he personally attacks, constantly, via unnecessary ad hominem remarks and such.

I never watched his videos but I wouldn't be surprised if he really does just dismiss anything Rebirth does as bs without putting time to analyze what its doing on its own terms.
The Red XIII/Nanaki hate is by far the most forced of everything because they actually made him a way more involved and better character.

You can't listen to these naysayers.  (1) The presentation of both og and the remakes are not only stylistically different, but thematically.  Og is like a swift, concise movie.  Remakes are like a TV series.  Movies have the challenge of cutting things out to ensure a brisk pace.  TV series' can take their time, explore things.  So that's the difference in approach.

And (2) lol, I think the creatives who brought us this game in the first place care way more about it than any of us blowins.  We just bought and played these games, they brought every aspect of it to life.  In the og the GI came and went without much fanfare, but those guys got excited about the prospect of what they could do with the GI in Rebirth in a way they didn't get to previously.  God forbid the people who created both versions of these games are enthused about ideas they haven't run by us yet lol

What I find awfully convenient is sebby likes to play both sides of 'im not taking this discussion seriously so you're getting rage baited by me' from a more indepth response like this. And simultaneously playing the 'im bringing genuine balance to the discussion of the remakes, I have a genuine point and should be taken  seriously' when doing in-depth comparisons. So which is it?

Pez ya beautiful bastard you hit the nails right on the head. This guy is articulate, well spoken, and funny but his arguments fall short. Wutai was tragic in OG as Sebby says but there’s a huge flaw that you point out. Even in places that get their culture bulldozed over after a crushing defeat like Japan, the people will still fight to preserve their culture when possible. If they can fight to regain their identity they will. It’s why his argument is as stable as a guy around Tifa appearing in Italy.

Just to be clear I don't hate the guy, a lot of his critics on the game are very reasonable things to criticize about, and he does bring up good points at times, but I just really don't like the way he goes about presenting these criticisms.

The biggest self-own for Sebbywebz is that he'll be playing Part 3 day one.

If you are forced to do all these side quests and minigames, then sure, I can understand people taking points away and possibly enjoying the game less.

If the "filler" is optional, which in 7 Rebirth it is, then the complaint is completely unreasonable.  No one is forcing you to do everything.  I do as much of the extra content as I feel like doing.  Then when I feel like I'm good, I'll complete the game.  If there's still a lot of content left I havent done, that means a 2nd playthrough will have plenty of material I havent seen yet.   Thats how I've always approached these things.

Wutai was filler in the OG in the first place. How pretentious is Sebby? If anything, the Remakes are expanding on and making Yuffie and Wutai matter to the lore in the FFVII mythos. All Yuffie and Vincent stuff was filler in the OG game, I don't see how it's bad that the Remake are making Yuffie and Vincent important like everyone else was in the OG game.

agree with both of your takes. I guess the biggest beef is that Cosmo Canyon being touristy goes against the vibe of the original. In the OG Cosmo was a sad place where people love the planet but they know the planet is dying, and they had no way of saving it. Bugenhagen himself had lost hope until he met our party. The arc of Cosmo canyon is that of renewed hope with Nanaki returning, Nanaki understanding his father and his role in the grander story and how Bugenhagen was finally able to pass on his world-saving knowledge that he had gathered through all of his life.

The fact that so many locations in FF7 Rebirth are happy, colourful tourist places pulls people who love the experience of the OG away, Cosmo Canyon, the jail under Gold Saucer and even Gongaga has a happy adventurish music. I love that tune btw. But it's not the OG vibe that many people wanted to re-experience which Sebby brought into words.

But I agree with you that filler content is more than okay if it prolongs an enjoyable experience. But when the filler starts extending a bad experience or pulls you out from a good experience, it gets overwhelmingly annoying. I would say Sebby is farming content by pointing out every detail that pulled him out of what he wanted to be a good experience. A few things alone are not an issue but when the pattern itself becomes annoying, you cannot help but notice it and you want to critique the whole thing which leads to over-nitpicking. Rebirth gets so many things right but it did gutpunch me out of the experience too many times: The ending, the multiverse-timeline bending confusion, Nanaki's voice, Zack and Aeris being alive(?), and especially Chadley interrupting every small bit of fun after completeling any side hustle.

One example of good filler turned horrible is Dio betting the ownership of Gold Saucer with Corneo. If Dio's team loses, Corneo gets Gold Saucer. If Dio's team win... he gets to... keep gold Saucer(?). What kind of a bet is that? Corneo was just an underground leader of street thugs in the slums while Dio is the leader of the most prestigious adventure park on the planet. Why did Dio agree to this? And why did Dio allow Corneo's team to hijack their audio for a full rap dance. And why the hell am I listening to a horrible rap song about it?  I liked the fight itself but this content would have been much better if the stakes and the setting made sense. Now it was just a random thing that happened for no reason... and then somehow the Turks and the freakin President of Shinra joined the fight too.

The reason he got big was because of E33. Take a look at his channel, he wasn't getting that much traction on his FF7 content. Then E33 was blowing up and he hit the algorithm, then he transferred that momentum back to his FF7 content. Had to keep it going with the rage bait. His complaints weren't actually all that bad back then, he did a lot of different content on FF7, was bearable. Now its just slop because that's his audience. He is completely captured.

Yeah, honestly, I don't really like Sebby that much. As a JRPG fan and a fellow Australian, I feel that he acts as if FF is the ONLY JRPG series that matters, when dude, there's so much more to turn-based JRPGs that isn't FF or Square. I know he is HUGE into the PS1-era JRPGs, but I never see him talk about the great ones. I know he has played The Legend of Dragoon on his channel before, but I never see him mention, say, Suikoden 1 and 2, Wild Arms 1 and 2, Breath of Fire 3 and 4, Grandia, Xenogears, Legend of Legaia, or many others that I'm probably forgetting. So yeah, I kinda feel bad for him for missing out on so many great turn-based combat systems in older JRPGs that aren't FF, because he'll probably lose his shit if he ever sees me say that my favorite PS2 JRPG isn't FFX, but actually Shadow Hearts: Covenant, as he likely views FFX as the peak of the PS2 and thinks every other JRPG on the console sucks. I could just be putting words in his mouth, but that's just the impression I have of him. So yeah, when it comes to Australian JRPG YouTubers, I'd rather watch Casp as a true JRPG YouTuber than Sebby, LMAO.
