The sister moving around furniture to block the baby...can they not bring a playpen? Isn't that what they're for?m

@flyingpuppy13 1 year ago

Kicked out pregnant sister: get a playpen. No furniture needs moved and it can be folded up at the end of visits

For the baby, I also would point out - a baby who is crying for an hour is not happy. The friend needed to leave for that reason as well. I get that she's missing her friends, and if the baby was calm, it'd be fine. But this baby wasn't happy. They may have been upset at being in a strange place, or maybe feeding was off due to this party, or whatever. But if they couldn't be calmed quickly, they needed to be like "no, we have to go, sorry about this" and then solve for the issue at home. Staying at the party for an hour is just . . . wow.

Gena:”Your daughter insulted an ADULT!”
And…? What is your point?
Gena’s just mad that her helicopter parent behavior is being properly called out.

My main takeaway from the “Splurge” story is how many Redditors have poor reading comprehension skills.

1st story: the poor baby was being stressed out by the party if the crying went on for that long without any sign of stopping. OP's idea if going to a different room to try to settle the baby makes perfect sense. I say this as a nanny who has dealt with fussy babies. OP is NTA

As a trucker mental health is insanely important. Long hours, long drives, never home, and little to no time to destress. Bunch of us with sleeper cabs have stuff installed to help us detach from the job on the road. Helps a lot.

For the toddler at D&D: If it had been my dog when he was still training, that kid would have lost fingers if they hadn’t been stopped. Parents need to stop assuming that everyone in the world has babyproofed everything for them. Stop letting your kids go around random dogs THAT ARE NOT YOURS without asking the owner! How hard is that?! I helped raise my sibling and made sure they had enough common sense not to approach strangers or strange animals!

With the sim rig, I think the wife is unjustified in her anger. It costed way less than the HOT TUB (which no one NEEDS) and a car (which people do need these days so I can forgive that) but making him walk 40 minutes home? He needs stimulation other than his job in his down time. When I worked at GameStop, like half the guys I got in my store were truck drivers who needed a console to keep them busy on down time. It just doesn’t make sense to me? Is she looking for an excuse to be mad at him? Or is it bc she just doesn’t like him gaming at all period point blank.

A teenager venting about their parent and teachers to a friend!? Won't sombody please think of the children!

@Mechjoc 1 year ago

Yeah, the trucker one? Dude is on the road multiple days a week. Earns a lot of money. He's doing something so he can unwind in his limited space. Holy shit, REddit cool your jets. He's doing what he can to just unwind when he's not around his family.

@TheMerryWolf 1 year ago

On the one hand, it takes a village to raise a child; on the other, some people shit out a baby and think it entitles them to make it everyone else's problem.

Every time I see "kick" and "pregnant" together in a sentence my brain defaults to the worst case scenario, what's wrong with me

Am I too old to understand why someone would need to answer a text instantly? Like, the mother absolutely does not have to text her kids friends that "She can't use her phone right now", there is the really logical decision to just leave the texts until the kid can have the phone back? She basks in displaying her powers as a mother...

I was listening to the SIM racing story thinking "the guy isn't an asshole, am I missing something?" 🤣 I'm glad I wasn't the only one

Story #2 OP might be providing full-time care for the disabled grandmother instead of rent.

@barrydheil 1 year ago

I strongly disagree with reddit on splurge. If they can afford a 39k car and a 4500 dollar hot tub, he can afford to get himself something to enjoy downtime while on the road. If anything, buying a new car is the bad financial decision, not the gaming rig.

@hecklinjekyll3959 1 year ago

So, with the pregnant sister story, why is furniture being used to corral a child? Maybe invest in a playpen or a mobile corral? I don't even know if that kind of thing exists, but it sounds like something you could improvise without too much trouble.

Story 1: Asked to leave. NTA. One thing parents need to learn is that you take crying children out of whatever public situation you are in. Restaurants, movies, dinner parties… whatever, if you can step out, you step out with the kid until everything calms down. You also need to learn your kid’s routine… what are the times that they are more likely to start crying because it’s normally their nap time, dinner time, etc. And finally… where is the baby’s father? Couldn’t he have kept the kid for the duration of the party, or at least the dinner part? Because that was the other option.. come for part of the night, and leave early to go back home to where the baby was being watched by someone else.
