Melanie Capriotti sits down with Streets 2 Success to tell a story that very few people could live through, let alone come back and talk about.
Her addiction eventually brought her to Kensington and Allegheny, where life became about surviving one day at a time. She experienced the reality of addiction on the streets of Kensington firsthand, including abusive relationships, violence, being beaten and thrown out of a car, and situations where she didn’t know what the next day would bring.
But Melanie’s story doesn’t end in Kensington.
After years of addiction, trauma, setbacks and trying to find a way out, she finally began rebuilding her life. Now sober, she returned to Philadelphia to sit down with us and tell the truth about where addiction took her, what she experienced while she was there, and what it took to start becoming herself again.
This conversation isn’t meant to glamorize Kensington or addiction. It’s about the human being behind it.
Melanie talks openly about the choices she made, the things that happened to her, the relationships she found herself in, the moments that should have broken her, and the difficult process of getting away from the life she was living.
Most importantly, we talk about what comes after survival.
Getting sober doesn’t erase the past. You still have to rebuild relationships, learn how to live differently, deal with what happened, and figure out who you are without the lifestyle that consumed you.
Today, Melanie gets the opportunity to tell her own story.
From being lost in Kensington to fighting her way back, this is Melanie Capriotti’s story of addiction, survival, sobriety and a second chance.
