I had one of those as a child and I could never remember the model number I'm so glad I came across your channel

I’ve got a very very very nice 550-1 with  shroad still on and beautiful

Great video.  I am really looking forward to shooting this rifle once I get all the parts ordered.  These are good tips for anyone that owns a Remington 550-1.

No problem man. Doing vids to help someone out is why Im on youtube in the first place. Sometimes I can upload easily but certain vids just won't upload. I may have to re record it and try again. Im srry but it may take a few days.

I see a lot of these come threw my shop people take them apart and bring it to me in a bag you got some good info here the worst thing is taking the sear screw out keep up the good work

I have had my Model 550 about 60 years.

I have the 552 and 552 BDL. My favorite thing about these rifles is that they will cycle CCI quiet. They are about the same sound as the short round but with 40 grains at 710fps.  Pretty good to about 50 yards and very quiet.

When I finished with this rifle it had the shroud on it to. Most ppl took them off or they fell off. They were suppose to be there.

Thanks, I just took mine out for the first time ever yesterday - it was a gift from my late grandfather. It's extremely accurate, and I didn't even need to compensate for targets 100 yards downrange. Good luck on finding .22LR ammo though

Cool, thanks, just picked one up for the farm

Great video. Thank you for your time. A couple other issues that are very common with these is the magazine tube retaining screw will be missing. And the screw that holds the detent spring for the beehive or recoil spring cap whatever you want to call it. We'll also be stripped. The sear cup and spring assembly is as you have shown extremely common to be cross-threaded. Those threads are 3/8-32 which is very unusual. You can get a tap and generally clean them up and use some loctite 242. Something I forgot to mention, the reason the Sear spring cup is virtually always crooked if it has been removed is the fact that the lower boss on the cup itself is of a diameter that will hit the sear lever every time. You cannot thread it in straight unless you remove the trigger assembly. I have a workaround that I have used for years but I will not recommend it only because someone will screw it up. It's a piss poor design as far as inserting that sear spring cup.

The 550-1 I've got has a shroud over the ejection port. I have never seen another like it. It has been shot 10's of thousands of times since I was a kid.

My dad has one of these. As kids it was one of our favorite guns. Then my brother was shooting and the back came loose somehow and the whole bolt assembly flew out when he shot and hit his eye. This was in the early 90s. Back then we never wore eye or ear protection. He had hard contacts in and when it hit his eye the contact shattered. The dr said if he didn’t have the contact he might be blind in that eye because when the contact shattered it took a lot of the force

As soon as I heard your Tarheel accent, I wanted to get a pulled pork sandwich and a can of Cheerwine.

Saw a 550-1 at pawn shop today, probably in avg. condition priced about $250.
In 2019 bought a JC Higgins Model 30 from same place ($108) which also shoots
22L, 22LR, and hi-speed 22 shorts. Made by High Standard for Sears. Now have to
decide if one old JCH is enough or to add the 550-1 to the mix. That screw wanting
to strip out threads in receiver has me a bit concerned. Thanks for the 550 vids.

Nice video, I received one of these as a kid actually my first "real" rifle.  These are full sized rifles made for an adult not a kid size or weight firearm.  I have shot and carried this thing for over 35 years with little or no trouble.  Remington got this on right (probably why they quit making it).  As a kid in New Mexico .22 longs were for some reason the cheapest ammo around.  I was lucky this rifle would eat this stuff all day without any problems.  .22 ammo is very dirty so if you clean the chamber area every few hundred rounds the thing will run pretty much forever.  I liked mine enough that I had a local gunsmith clean and re-blue the thing plus re-finish the stock which is a pretty nice piece of wood.  I'm still mounting the 20+ year old K-mart 4x scope and at 75 yards it is spot on.  The only two gripes I have is the trigger was never very good and you really cannot improve it's function.  The second is why does everyone treat such a nice rifle so badly?  Keep it clean and well cared for don't drop and drag the thing around:  the rifle deserves better.
Product called Dri-slide works wonders in keeping the floating chamber floating.....

I just picked one up in an auction. The action, tube and chamber was caked with gunk, heavy grease and baked powder.

Thanks mine is still in great shape got it for my birthday 1954 thanks again

No problem.  I appreciate you working on that video.  I have started ordering parts from Numrich, so once i see how the gun is put together, i will be able to order all the parts i need.  Thanks again.

No problem at all!  I have started ordering the parts, so it will be awesome to see what parts i am still missing and how to assemble the entire gun.
