Wondering how to record vocals? In this vocal recording tutorial, I show you how to record vocals like a pro using the right setup, mic placement, and workflow to get clean, powerful takes every time. If your vocal recordings sound inconsistent or amateur, it’s likely not the vocalist—it’s your process. In this guide, I break down my full vocal tracking workflow after recording thousands of takes, including room setup, eliminating distractions, choosing the right microphone (SM7B, SM57, SM58), proper mic placement and distance, gain staging, DAW session prep, and building the perfect headphone mix. You’ll also learn how to track vocals in sections for better performance, how many takes you actually need, and pro techniques for recording aggressive vocals like metal, hardcore, and screaming. Whether you’re working in a home studio or recording clients, this will help you get tighter, more professional vocal recordings.
