Here are the (5) things that I need right now: Time, Time, Time, Time, and Time.

Man! This is some solid advice. Most people don't say anyhing about the room. Room, mic placement, and performance are waaaaayyyyyyy more important than the actual gear you use. Solid.

Absolutely true! I have pretty much quit buying gear and I don’t need anymore plugins. I have all that I need. You hav no idea how comforting that is!
I turn on my mixer/interface, my computer and synths. Call up my DAW and record.

Thanks for saving me money homie!

The content we all needed 🙌

I found a 25 year old Tascam Cassette Recorder. I bought after a salesman asked me what I was looking for. I told I wanted to learn how to record music and was looking at very expensive equipment. He asked ifI recorded music before. I said no. Maybe you should learn on this easy to use Tascam four track recorder that was very cheap but good to learn on. I bought it and a few weeks later I realized how wise this guy was. I learned the basics. Wise salesman and full of integrity.

wow, what a refreshing and fantastic video. mate this is class!!

Your video is all common sense and a reminder that spending more doesn't necessarily equate to better sounds .  Enjoyed the logic .

Straight to the Point, absolute gem 🤩🤩 No filler speech or extensive analysis paralysis with eq curves and obsession with technology and knobs. Keep sharing mate 😍😍 ! DEFINITE recommendations WITH PRICES, cuts to the ultimate decision-making at the End 😝😝!!

I produced a song on a Grammy nominated album on an old cheap Dell labtop in college. My equipment today is significantly better. I have most of the great plugins, expensive mics and pres. And since that track I produced, I have not gotten on another Grammy nominated or winning album. Not that this is required to show music success, the point is you can get far making music on cheaper equipment as long as the passion, drive, creativity and chance are there.

really well done vid man instant like and follow, looking fwd to learning more and potentially working w ya

Every video you always have the best knowledge. Sometimes I learn and sometimes you talk about stuff I have already been doing for the last 20 years with my home studio. Gives me a boost of confidence to know I have been on the right track.

Love this video mate! Spot on.

1.The computer - important thing is to have very good single-core performance and enough RAM (min. 16 GB these days) / 2. Interface - must have enough I/O for the kind of recording you're going to do and stable drivers / 3.The microphone - if you only have one, good SNR is king, most of everything else can be achieved with EQ. Rode NT-1 is almost as good as it gets and costs ~150 eur / 4. Headphones are kind of a matter of taste and it's best to test them out before buying 5. DAW - Reaper and FL Studio offers most bang for buck from payed options, but really it doesn't matter that much what you choose

Brilliantly done mate

This is so true.  I compared a se4100 with a neumann tlm 49. Almost no difference in sound and more than three times the price. Yes, you are so right. For us gearfreaks a difficult thing to admin.

It looks like this video is just for me, I also search everything but do nothing😂

Brilliant! You probably wouldn't have convinced me years ago when I needed to hear this. I learned the hard way. Hopefully lots of people will take your excellent advice and avoid the unnecessary costs I incurred. Thank you Nik. Love your channel. You deserve to have 100 times the subscribers.

Thank you sir!

Essential advice for anyone starting out, listen to this man. I did likewise a few years ago, researching every aspect only to realize that most folks are just in sales, pushing whatever makes them some cash. Then I got down to actually recording on my everyday PC with it's Soundblaster soundcard. Reaper is awesome, so simple and so adaptable, and a fraction of the price of others.
