22:52 This will always be my favorite moment, because it's implied that Carl knows Ellie would ABSOLUTELY say yes to keeping the bird. I think that's the reason he didn't get mad. If it had been something Ellie wouldn't have said, then he'd definitely be upset.

This movie hits hard. I lost my husband  of 19 years, in 2018. He was only 47 an i was 45. I have never remarried. I still miss him.

I think Carl wants to save the bird because she is a mother, something Ellie never got to experience.

Up is so meaningful about expressing grief and loss. In fact, there was a story about a ten year old girl named Colby Curtin. She was seriously ill. Knowing she wouldn’t last long, her last request was that she wanted to see the Pixar movie Up. Unfortunately, the film wouldn’t be released in theaters by then. Bedridden and her eyesight was going bad, her mother desperately made calls and a handwritten letter to Pixar for her daughter. Surprisingly, Pixar answered their calls and took her story to heart. They sent out a Pixar employee to their house with a DVD master copy for them to view personally in their house. Since Colby’s eyesight was not good, her mother had to talk it through on what was happening onscreen. When the movie ended and the employee was about to leave, Colby told them she loved it. Nine hours later, she had passed away. Proof that Pixar has a heart and fulfilled a dying child’s wish.

After getting older and watching so many times, i just noticed how cool it is that he sold balloons at the zoo. Probably why he knew a lot about balloons and stuff. Also, I just realized how symbolic it was when Carl tossed and broke the money jar to chase after Russel and make the house float again.

If you think about it, Ellie was happy to break the jar many times and never complained. Did it with a smile on her face. Because we plan and plan, but life happens and they kept needing the money. And that is okay for her. She was enjoying the ride because she was with him. This time, life happened again and Carl had to save his new family again, like how the jar used to save him and Ellie in times of crisis. I might be reaching, but it's beautiful to look at it that way. 🥰

Before as a kid, it really made me hurt and a bit bitter seeing that scene. It felt unfair and I couldn't accept how he could do that to precious memories. Maybe it came with age too, so I learned to see it with grace and acceptance like Ellie did. ✨

40:46 I love this scene bc it quite literally is a personification of letting go of your past trauma in pursuit of moving forward, in this case moving up

I think muntz was in his 90s and Carl was in his 70s. This would make him 20 years or so older. The math would check out. If Carl was maybe 9 or something in the beginning Muntz would’ve been around 29

It goes without saying that UP is one of the most emotional Disney/Pixar films ever made, I mean the whole montage of Carl and Ellie's life together always gets me.

But it was also fun to see Carl and Russell have many adventures while trying to walk the house over to Paradise Falls!

Anyway, now that you've watched the movie, I hope we'll see your reaction to the Dug Days mini-series and the "Carl's Date" short someday.

i cried like 3 times while watching this reaction

i also realized how Charles was a dark mirror of Carl. Both old men who harbor relics in a floating abode, obsessing over goals decades in the making. Carl's arc was letting go, and Charles failed to let go, hence his downfall (literally lol)

I think the first appearance of blood in a Pixar movie was in Finding Nemo, when Dory got hit on the nose with the goggles. However, since it’s in water, it looked much different. This is definitely the first use of blood in a more traditional way in a Pixar movie.

48:53: "A tearjerker for sure."  The world agrees with you, Scoot.

Interesting to note: Director Pete Docter stated that the inspiration for having an elderly character as the lead role in a Pixar film derives from his friendship with Disney’s top animators Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston. They shared with him their experiences working under their boss and friend Walt Disney, so he utilized what he learned from them into Up.

My papa’s memorial was today and I think you should all know the man he was: he immigrated here from Mexico with his family, he grew up in a strict household but he said it taught him a lot. He became a firefighter chief and a father to kids who didn’t have one on Father’s Day. He was obsessed with gardening and just creating. He took a whole backyard and made a mini shed house like area, a bocce court, koi pond, and mini orchard of spliced trees so you could have pears and apples on ONE tree! He was smart even learning English by LEARNING LATIN, they said his mind never stopped. A week before passing he sat outside drawing, my grandma asked  what was he doing and he told her that he wanted to extend the patio before he passed. He loved me and my grandma, he REALLY loves her. He took her on so many trips to so many places, because that’s what my grandma loves. He would give to anyone that needs it, he would say that he knew how it was to have basically nothing so now that he has everything he wants to help others where he can, but do not be fooled because this man was no pushover! He is my modern definition of a hero <3

him dropping russell and the hard cut to show he was just thinking of a plan kills me

7:25 you said you want to die with your wife.  I have told my husband multiple times that in a perfect world, we both die at the same time so neither has to live without the other.  I know it’s not going to happen unless some tragedy strikes, but that would be my ideal too.  Thanks for sharing this reaction with us.

Bro this is a heart breaking movie about grief, don't do me like this scoot I've lost too many people this past year 😔

33:12 I wouldn’t really say this is a “never meet your heroes” thing. Charles Muntz was a good man before he lost his mind in South America

one of the most heartbreaking openers of all time...

11:35 Technically no. In Finding Nemo, Dory gets smacked in the face and starts bleeding, which then triggers Bruce to go on a frenzy. But I’m pretty sure this is the first time we seen a human bleed in a Pixar movie.

The age of Muntz always confused me too, felt almost unrealistic. I think bcs of the old-timey movie style we saw Muntz in it made him seem quite a bit older than he supposedly was, and he aged better than Carl clearly. Apparently he is supposed to be 23 in that movie, according to the director, there's only a 14-year age difference between him and Carl. Carl is 78 so that makes Muntz is 92, so it's not as out there as I thought
