The Askar N160 can produce beautiful deep-sky images. But how much work does it take to get there?

After approximately two months of testing with colour and monochrome APS-C cameras, I share my results and the setup challenges I encountered. From Andromeda and the Coathanger to close-ups of unprocessed corner stars, we look at what this fast Newtonian delivers before and after processing.

I cover collimation with an OCAL, backfocus adjustments, autofocus, narrowband-filter compatibility, camera rotation, and the limitations I found along the way. I also explain the changes that made my setup reliable—and who I think this telescope is best suited to.

Crazy amount of information and knowledge in this video! I feel smarter having watched this. 👍

I love that you colour-coordinated your outfit with the scope. I bet Astrobiscuit never thinks of that when he's buying his clothes at the charity shop.

Outstanding review, thank you. I had an old fast Meade Newtonian, and the initial collimation was tricky because you had to "cheat" a little in one direction in the coarse alignment before attempting star collimation. It was my first big telescope and was a challenge to learn. For those who don't like tinkering with their equipment, a good refractor is definitely the way to go. For us strange people who actually enjoy tuning engines and telescopes, something like this Askar is a lot of fun!

I would have bought this over my Carbonstar 150 had they both been available at the time. The Carbonstar needed a lot of extra work, including updated focuser and a mask on the primary and secondary mirror. Looks like Askar has done a good job here, though I'm surprised at the lack of baffles.

Great review. Besides the beautiful, relaxing scenery, the technical aspects and advice on using the telescope are very useful for anyone wanting to use a fast telescope like this one. Greetings from Brazil!

Very good detailed review, thanks for running all these tests. Fast reflector are really a test on the robustness of the design and build construction. Another option in this category is the Epsilon 160ed. While in another price bracket, the epsilon hold collimation incredibly well.
