My Dad moved us back to his hometown of Mayflower, Arkansas....when he had his 'midlife crisis' at age 50.  He inherited 40 acres there, built a house....then realized that 'you can't go back and reclaim your childhood memories.  Mom and Dad stayed a total of 5 years,  then sold everything and moved back to Wichita, Kansas, where us kids grew up. As an adult, I saw just how horrible that experience was for my Dad.  'Hometown' wasn't 'hometown' anymore.

Outsiders typically think Oklahoma is a dry flatland not realizing the eastern half is green with many tall rolling hills, creeks, valleys, caves,
waterfalls, and beautiful lakes. I am in Sequoyah county born and raised still living on my little piece of Heaven. I enjoyed your trip to your old stomping grounds.

I've been watching you for a little while now and it was a bit of a shock to not only see my hometown but to see you drive right by my house!! Thanks for passing through and thanks for the stories, it's always nice to see people who can appreciate the good parts of our messy state.

Getting older is like being caught in a time machine. Wherever you go you see what things were like long ago.

Born and raised and still live in Kansas.  But have always really liked Oklahoma for the way of life, the good people, and nice towns and countryside.  Thank you for posting this.

Wow, I am in Europe but your story of the town where you grew up is so much like mine. Including the happy memories and the biking around town as a kid. I can hear in your voice the way your happy upbringing shaped you. I believe strongly that what where we are from stays with us all through life. Thanks so much for sharing - I love your vlogs.👍

I live in Enid, Oklahoma. I have grown up here pretty much since my Dad moved us here in 1974 from Seattle Washington. I'm 58 years old now. I have never thought of Oklahoma as a bad place. I got married and moved to Durango, Colorado at 17 and had my first son. Then ended up in Denver for a year and I came back home to Enid. I have been here ever since. I don't find anything wrong with living here. If you are low on things to do you can travel an hour and a half to OKC and spend the day going to the zoo, or take the kids to do whatever. I don't know why everyone says Oklahoma is such a bad place to be? Any way, May God bless you in your travels.

I wouldn t have a hesitation to live in those quiet neighborhoods of Claremore, OK.. Thats like a typical all American town thats great for raising kids and retiring.

I recently spent a Sunday in Elk City Oklahoma
I attended a Church service and met some of the nicest people ever.  
They treated me like they had known me for ever.
I was very impressed with Oklahoma.  Very nice

Lived in Oklahoma my whole life and never heard it was the worst state. I happen to love my Oklahoma. I was born and raised in Oklahoma, lived outside of it once and will not do that again anytime soon.

NE Oklahoma here living in our little slice of heaven. Don’t let our secrets out.

Great video. My parents were married at Ft. Sill Oklahoma in 1942. Mom was an army nurse and dad was an officer with Field Artillery Company.

Grew up a military brat, married a GI & went into the USAF myself. I’ve seen a lot of places here & overseas. We both became civilians eventually & moved to OKC -well, Piedmont, OK actually where my parents retired, but worked & shopped in OKC. LOTS of shopping available! We retired on 5 acres in the foothills about 30 min E of Edmond, OK where we go to shop & do just about everything. Top quality health care in the 2 large Mercy hospitals & dr offices (everywhere) which I have received many operations, cancer treatment, heart surgery for hubby, etc., We do our shopping, activities & so much in Edmond. Great restaurants! Cost of living is great compared to Detroit where my husband grew up. OK is home since 1988. Terrible roads, elevated crime now since we moved here in 1988 (I-40 is the illegal drug highway!) but every state has it’s problems. We live in a safe area & know our neighbors. We have a great church within the OKC Archdiocese that’s run by the FSSP who provide the old Latin Mass & we have a school. (St Damien of Molokai) Our kids, grandchildren & my parents all live here. Life is good! Bloom where you’re planted 😊 OK is really a good place to live.

I ❤ my home state, 62 yrs of traveling but Oklahoma is home. Low cost of living, friendly folks.
