The biggest problem with the manga version was how rushed it felt. Yes, I know the anime version dragged, but the manga blitzed through everything way too quickly. It felt like Toyotaro had no interest in this arc at all and just wanted to get ahead of the anime. Which is funny because this is also the only arc that he didn't really talk about at all.
Also, I really feel that this should've just been a Universe 6, 7 & 11 Tournament, because we hardly saw any of the other universes.
Best thing the manga did was not overpower the Universe 6 Saiyans so much and not have one line about the tingly back. This must've been the one thing Toriyama did that Toyotaro didn't like. Or he must've seen the backlash it got.😂
One of the rare times where I prefer hype moments and Aura over decent writing. I'm glad we got the anime ToP. I don't think manga ToP would be as hype if they adapted that one
I feel like every single DBS Arc in the Manga (from Battle of Gods to the Tournament of Power) was spedrun so Toyotaro could get to his own original arcs. Maybe its because of how each chapter has numerous panels and pages in it. Maybe its because Arcs such as BoG and RoF are relatively short. I say this as every arc prior to the ToP has less than 20 chapters. Meanwhile Moro and Granola have 20 or more chapters. Even Superhero has less than 20 chapters (whether or not you count Trunks & Goten's mini-arc as well as the few chapters after Superhero). Which is weird as RoF and Broly were skipped over. Though referenced as having happened. Plus RoF had a separate promotional manga for the movie so that's understandable. Anyway. I can understand the Manga version of ToP being as short as it is compared to the Anime version. Its supposed to be quick, fast paced action as soon as the tournament starts. However, i would've liked us getting to fully see certain fights in the manga. Fights we don't fully see and get only catch parts of. Hit vs Jiren (before Goku arrives). Vegeta vs Toppo. 17 vs Dyspo. Gohan vs Kefla. Don't get me wrong. I don't dislike the manga's version. I enjoyed how much more character they gave to Jiren. Making him be active throughout the whole tournament instead of just doing nothing. I enjoyed Roshi reminding Goku of all the training he has done under various masters. I found it far more for this being the catalyst for Ultra Instinct. Much better than the anime version attempting a Spirit Bomb in terrible conditions. I loved how Kale wasn't a damsel in distress and was secretly strong all along. A nice callback to Future Trunks holding his power back out of respect for his father. The Goku & Hit vs Jiren tag-team was also nice. Another good callback to when Goku teamed up with Piccolo to fight against Raditz. I also enjoyed Frieza using Frost to essentially get rid of an entire Universe. Ok granted he got 7 out of 10 fighters. It was a nice way to remind us how cunning and clever Frieza can be. And how Frost, while strong in his own right, doesn't hold a candle to his Universe 7 counterpart. Finally i enjoyed Goku and Vegeta, both unable to tap into their strongest forms, refusing to give up. Working together to defeat Jiren with Vegeta bringing up the idea instead of Goku. I found this moment to be amazing, much more than when they teamed up together in the anime. Though i do wish they gave us more characterization and build up for Jiren in the Tournament of Power. Maybe some short flashbacks prior to the tournament beginning. Showing the readers the story of Jiren. How similar he is to Goku. And how his experiences shaped him into the man we would meet. Because both Jiren and Goku have lost people close to them before. The only difference is that Goku's universe has the means revive peoppe. If the Dragon Balls didn't exist in Universe 7. Maybe Goku could've ended up like Jiren? And i would've loved to see that
28:16 This moment... Makes me so sad. Sad that manga couldn't portray the same level of peak that I watched in the anime.
In the anime, it was Vegeta's answer to beating Jiren, his own way of progressing past Goku. His own path to breaking his own limits. The transformation scene was the second best in all of DBS, the music, the dialogue, THE REASON . And the fact the colour of it is ROYAL blue. Makes it the perfect form for Vegeta's own evolution.
The fact the manga just has him whining about being second to Kakarot again and just powering up into SSJBE compared to him getting stronger in SSJB gradually throughout his fights in the TOP then finally Evolving into a SSJBE is actually pathetic.
Me personally, if I were to write this manga, I’d wanna change Vegeta’s reason for going blue evolved, have goku go Ui sign earlier against Jiren, so then we can have Gohan be eliminated by Kefla, so then we can get Ui sign Goku for the 2nd time.
Some parts are better in each version. A full fight between the 12 gods of destruction would have been great to see animated, along with the context that Goku inadvertently gave the universes another chance with the tournament instead of just a passing comment. Also making the U6 sayians have more personality than just the embodiment of nervousness, cowardice, and cockiness would have been interesting. Kale did fuck all until she transformed in the show, having her actual be a warrior before that would have been nice to see. U11 was much more a threat in the show. Topp without god powers seems like a joke
Kale alone gave Golden Frieza a tough time. You're telling me Mystic Gohan jumped from losing to Buu to tieing a Kefla fusion with JUST TRAINING?? Manga's crazy 😂
