I’m always curious to see these techniques applied to something like Blood Bowl where the tone of the game and paint jobs tends to be sillier and lighter rather than grimdark.

I always see oil washes used to make stuff look nasty but I assume you could use other colors or even payne’s grey to get a less severe shadow

6:35 I think a lot of channels don't stress this stage enough when using oil washes. I couldn't figure out why my paintjobs looked so stark in the shadows, until I was trying to clean some of the oil off to fix the problem, and realized this stage really can be used as an intermediary step to blend the colors. Great work again sir!

When I was young I used to do this when I painted my Hero Quest miniatures with my Testors paint for my model cars. I used paper towel though, I never thought to use a foam sponge for the texture

This is the type of painting I've been doing ever since I found your original oilchop videos awhile ago. For me it's the perfect mix of easy to do with great looking results. I'd love to see how you'd apply this technique to a larger model such as a vehicle!

I have done this on a Cerastis Knight. Works absolutely fantastic. I'm a good painter but the grungy realism and depth you can add with this feels like cheating.

I have been using this method for about a year or so now. I typically do varnish before oil wahing, not because of peeling but because of the color filtering. Some oils will stain some colors underneath even if they are only left on for 30 minutes to an hour so the varnish helps me protect my brighter areas and highlights from getting toned down or muddied while the oil wash still does its job in the recesses.

I almost feel like the base coat zenithal is where you should do the oil wash. Then put speed paints over that, so the color/saturatioon doesnt get killed so badly.
