Are we cool with re-casting Aragorn?

I'd rather just see an unrelated story from Middle earth more so than trying to shoehorn aging actors into their old roles

Viggo captured the "raised by elves" vibe perfectly, without it ever being said out loud in the film.

Jackson's trilogy will never be topped or even come close. It was lightning in a bottle

Mortensen has turned down two paydays to protect the legacy of his Aragorn performance. What a guy.

Viggo didn't PLAY Aragorn, he WAS Aragorn.

I think it's FAR WORSE to have some actors return and others not, especially considering aging.
If anything, they could make an intro with Gandalf (McKellen) and Frodo (Wood) on the road to Valinor, where Gandalf tells the events of the Hunt for Gollum, and that whole film is then a flashback with a new and age-appropriate cast.

I am truly dreading a buff, young Aragorn who looks like he knows what tiktok is

Viggo Mortensen being 67 now was not something I was prepared for 😧

You really nailed it at the end. Declining to reprise the role is exactly what Aragorn would have done.

Viggo being seven years older than Sir Ian was just blew my mind.

Gondor has no pants. Gondor needs no pants

I remember someone on the Lotr set (I think it was Billy Boyd) saying Viggo is like an old fashioned movie star. The sort of star you would cast in a western. In fact Viggo has directed and starred in his own western now. That sort of actor was a dying breed back then. But now? I am not sure such an actor even exists...

I wish The Hobbit was one movie, and that was the end. I wish they’d leave this IP alone instead of sucking its withered corpse for every drop of DNA.

This franchise has an unnaturally long lifespan and is being corrupted...omg it has the ring

dont get excited my dude. They're just doing a star wars and wringing every buck they can from its corpse.

7:30 I think you hit it here: Seeing SOME of the characters played by the former actors and NOT others... gonna be really hard for me to immerse myself methinks.

2:12 - "Perfectly cromulent" is an accurate description of that portrayal of Aragorn. After all, a noble spirit embiggens the smallest man!

I can't imagine anyone other than Viggo as Aragorn

They should cast Stuart Townsend but only if he promises to break his toe kicking something. Doesn’t have to be a helmet
