I Built an Aquarium for a Samurai Betta

I’ve always been scared of the idea of keeping bettas.
They seem complicated to keep for a beginner.
You have to have heated water, a lid on the tank so it doesn’t jump out and enough enrichments to keep it stimulated.
But after deep research, and after watching every video online, I finally got the confidence.

Bettas are the best! Each have their own personality and can be trained. I handfed mine tiny bits of lunch meat and brine shrimp. He also let me pet him. Glad you are enjoying your new lad!

WOW! This was such a great and honest build. I really like how you shared your initial fears about keeping a Samurai Betta and then showed how proper research makes all the difference. Wow, I wouldn't have the chill to redo the substrate after I added the wrong sand. It costs a ton.

That betta is stunning. I just adored mine - he had such a personality. I put a wooden airstone in his 10-gal tank, and he just loved lying on it, basking in the bubbles!

Bettas can and do appreciate friends. A few dwarf Rasboras would keep him company. All of my bettas, and I have four are in with other fish without issue. Phoenix rasboras are minuscule. They would do great with the Beta.

My samurai is in a 65 gallon high tank with a big black and silver angelfish, an orange and black molly, and a black bristle nose pleco. Lots of plants and tons of stuff to explore. Sometimes he hangs out with the molly doing laps around the tank. He’s always exploring.

My first fish that i was confident i could keep was a betta in my 40L tank and it went really well, i dont have a lid on my tank and keep the water lower than the tank rim but hes never tried to jump at all i suppose thats the pros of having a long finned betta, at first around 4 years ago when cycling my tank i had around 4 heaters just not work and man it was stressful

I always love seeing a high contrast scape with a high contrast fish it compliments the fish so nicely 🤌🏻🤌🏻 plus why shouldn’t you have fun with your scapes!
