In this video I share what brokerage firms and funds I’m invested in and I share my portfolio asset allocation. I’m not an expert or a financial advisor. Oooo, I love how you put this. I too am keeping a good amount in IRA CD's because they do as well as the conservative investments such as bonds. Looking at it this way really puts me in that 60/40 spilt.

Like your transparency and you have learned a lot. Call your non-stock portfolio portion fixed-income or income. Also, you could consolidate all your accounts to 1 or 2 providers and hold just VTI and VXUS plus your fixed income for lower fees and less complexity. Less is more. You can buy some Treasury Notes now up to 5+%.

Thanks for the information ! I think I’m too conservative with my allocation but I’m 62,and divorced so I’m still trying to get more of a comfort level with investing. I recently got out of a very bad CIT target date fund and reallocated to an S&P index fund and a Stable Value Fund with my employer . Options are limited though .

You are getting just as good, if not better returns on your own than I am with a financial advisor. However, I'm fully aware that I do not have the emotional capacity to make my own day-to-day investment decisions. I would be paralyzed with indecision, and then once I made a decision, I would second guess myself. That's too much stress for me.

This was interesting. We are very similar in the way we invest with the exceptions of CDs which is something I just had not considered. You are doing well with them vs bonds which have been negative for me this year. (Bond fund)

Great points! I had become more relaxed in my mostly equities portfolio when then proved themselves. And also if there is a dip I’m ready to not withdraw.

My 60/40 also includes Private REITs, Managed Futures, Gold, Cash and Bonds in the 40% portion, it's all about diversification from the stock market and matching your risk tolerance. Nothing wrong with your portfolio at all, it's all about what works for you and your risk tolerance.

Julie, from listening to you and other podcasters, I pushed my Target Fund date back 20 years for more stocks and less bonds since my pension acts like a bond. With 10 years of savings at the ready, like you have, you can stay aggressive. One idea I just heard about was taking a 1-time big hit on taxes and put everything in a Roth. That way all the money in the future is yours and you won't have to worry about taxes or RMDs in the future. Also, simple usually beats complicated every time. Good job!

I keep it simple. I am in a transition phase, still 2 years from retirement. 20/80 portfolio, which I intend to keep like that. The 20% are in cash and short term corporate bonds, the etf part is a conservative dividend etf for feeding the cash bucket, the rest in msci world quality and momentum. In bad years I intend to draw nothing from the etf portfolio, my ss and pension already cover all my basic expenses.
