My 8x10" film Photography Diaries series continues this week with a shoot on Dartmoor, a calssic landscape and a classic film Fuji Velvia 50. There is just something magic about this film and what better way to put some more through the big camera.

My calculations say the 250mm on the 8x10 is 32.5. 210mm is 27.3. I can’t remember where I found this but it had .13 as the number to use for the 8x10 lenses and .27 for 4x5.

8x10 large format…you are a photography master. I have a hard time bringing my 35mm Nikon F2 with me on a daily basis. Love the 1st shot.

Two fantastic shots Lee from Saddle Tor.
I love that area of Dartmoor, visited in May to Emsworthy Mire, just down the hill from where you were.
Wish Velvia was easier to get hold of, I'm finding even Kodak E100 in 120 hard to even find at the moment.

Love the first image a lot. A little too much sky if I'm being picky, but you're restricted by the format, and can
always crop later. Very nice feel, and comp!

I glued levels on my front and rear. If I for example run out of rise, I can tilt camera up, level both standards with levels and shoot. (My shen hao front does not get to exactly 90 degrees even with camera level so I need front level always unless I check how much front tilt I have in the notch position). When I finally did that, I soon found it hard to imagine I've lived without them.
Lovely shots, Velvia is so nice when the light is good for it. I really liked the first one.

Another great post. The first photograph was on the magnificent side. I am hoping you did not cut that tree down for the second shot. That would be way wrong. Do you ever let the peanut gallery tag along with you? I have some 6x17 gear that would be really happy out there.

An absolute shame Fuji ditched Velvia 50 for 8x10 and 4x5.......... I am glad I managed to fill up my freezer but it's sad. What Wisner version are you using? Cheers, Bert.

Good photos... I prefer the first one...
the second one seems to me empty... without a
clear goal... I think
you should try to use
your 617 camera to take
the picture of the tree.

Where did you get the Velvia 50???? I have been trying to find some 8x10 for a couple of years and cannot find it

How else are you meant to carry a camera like that except over your shoulder?

I like Velvia but it’s one of those films that I don’t like for skin tones at all, everyone gets a bit of a red flush. Maybe long-exposure portraits would cancel that out…
