Her name is Sonja Madzikanda, and with her are the two children that she bore to Wicknell Chivayo, prior to their separation in 2024, that is John and Atarah Chivayo, and this was the first time that the children were being included in the mourning, after an earlier report by the Chivayo family spokesperson Herbert Chivayo, that they had been kept away from the news of their father's passing to protect them from being traumatized.
Among the state officers that were attending the evening vigil was head of state Emmerson Mnangagwa, who arrived shortly before sunset aboard a black Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600, of registration number ZIM 1.
President Mnangagwa who was a close friend of Wicknell Chivayo arrived amidst a vibrant choir performance by members of the Johane Masowe Echishanu church, to which Wicknell belonged, as well as several family friends of the Chivayos.
After greeting the state officers that had preceded him upon disembarking from the ride, the 84 year old head of state went straight into the house to personally pay his tributes to family members of Wicknell Chivayo, as well as his ex wife and the children, and espite the loss, Sonja Madzikanda and her children maintained their composer during this interaction with the President, with the 34 year old mother of two even at one point affording a smile on her face.
