All Black people recognize and love these old artists. The bravery it took to do it back in these days under Jim Crow, even the Barnstormers of NNL were entertainers. I have utmost respect for them.
I enjoyed this so, so very much ... I was transported back to the 20's and 30's with Mr. Robinson and when the video ended I was misty eyed and shedding tears as if he were my uncle or closest friend ... He was truly a talented, kind and beautiful soul ... 😢
Total respect! What an amazing man, I did know of him as a dancer but I knew nothing of his life or how hard he worked and the things he did for charity.
One of my movies that I own is Stormy Weather. As a kid, my brothers and sisters and I watched those old Shirley Temple movies every Saturday. Before we knew the term “Uncle Tom” we watched with delight the skill and kindness that shown through those old movies when he would take her little hand and dance. I never heard about his life story, but when the song Mr. Bojangles came out and Sammy Davies Jr. explained that it was about Bill Robinson, it made me pause to reflect upon those old movies. I had a couple of uncles who couldn’t read or write so when I heard that about him I couldn’t help but remember my father’s two older brothers.
Nobody better than Bojangles Robinson. However Gregory Hines played ROBINSONS life story. I have the dvd. He is gone too now. Damn such incredible talent. GONE WITH THE WIND
