A couple of follow up points:  first, I apologize for the weird blurring around the edges.  I think I can solve this in the future, but I didn't notice this till I hit publish.  Next, please note that the other Subclass spells not listed are almost all universally good.  The Alchemist, for example, gets Flaming Sphere at level two and that is a spell that might use quite a lot and is a pretty good spell.  As for the Banishment brain freeze on my part, I can't explain it except it just flew right out of my head in front of camera.  That may be because I don't over value Banishment, but I also don't over value Fire Shield, so I don't know why that happened.

In any case, I hope it is helpful.

Totally agree with your second level ranking. The new Homunculus servant (which is a ritual, doesn't take an infusion space and doesn't need a bonus action to act) is freaking awesome!

I'm playing an Artificer in a Christmas one-shot. A Hobgoblin who is one of the more martial of Santa's Helpers... 😅
This list is so timely and, well, helpful!

Let's not forget the Battle Smiths' lvl 3 subclass spell, Conjure Barrage.  A more easily aimed light fireball in a cone with better damage type (force).

As a Battlesmith I just used Absorb Elements and Shield, then Web spam, and Vortex Warp was easily the MOST utilized in every scenario. I found I was reaction starved once I got flash of genius ending up using it more out of combat unless it was a mind save focused fight.

Rope Trick is the Get Out of Jail Free card....otherwise heals. Cure Wounds (ranged with Familiar from Magic Initiate and going Bat for Blindsight Bonus Action) Aid and Lesser Restoration

Speaking of Familiars. Homunculus Servant and a Familiar both with Wand of Magic Missile is MEAN AS HELL. I had a drone army.

Aid is basic but damn if I didn't stop 2 TPKs with it before level 8. High survivability with Artificer + Aid means you'll get more use factor. Otherwise Web was basically used in 90% of fights unless there wasn't enough enemies or no way to position. As soon as it dropped it was a fight winner. I won a fight basically solo because the enemies grouped up in boats in a river the size of Web....My 22 AC + shield vs like 12 bad guys with disadvantage I took SO many hits and just laughed. Felt like a god.

At later levels the items got better so I played around more with Haste, Dispel Magic, and Conjure Barrage. Haste is more just "this spell is bad but with Artificer kinda fun for once" Big F U to the Fighter for getting a third attack before they do just for the funny. Otherwise back to Web with concentration...you just get tired after awhile always using Web for your concentration.

I never created Wand of Web because you don't need more than 1 up a fight, I never lost concentration, and it takes attunement. Better to use that attunement for something else (buff AC while it matters, then later summon and mobility items)

The 9-11 power spike was overwhelming imo. I had to start nerfing myself by not utilizing my kit because I didn't want my DM to freak out and do it for me (weak party who was multiclassing in 2024 and not optimized so I looked a good power level over everyone except the Paladin)

Shining Smite is fun if you really wanna just showcase how much single target you can do just as an FU + Arcane Jolt + Magic Missile Spam + Elemental Gem attack...my DM looked at me like I kicked his puppy. Let's just say I hold my punches with this class.

Once I get Diamond Dust in spades I am going to spam Glyph of Warding...but the component cost is a no go for most campaigns. Glyph of Warding Haste sounds SO fun. We have a mobile base so hoping to throw some concentration spells around like Aura of Vitality and Haste, as well as some traps and alarms...maybe sleep spell on a trap to knock out thieves.

Fly is sadly only good for the one level then youll likely want to grab Winged Boots...so you'd only use it to give 1 other person fly which is unlikely and you'll want that concentration in battle.

Cube of Force at level 14 makes getting it at 17 pretty irrelevant because You'd most certainly still want to grab Cube of Force at 14 either way.

Imo Circle of Power is the big winner for subclass spells at 17.

Depending on the subclass (battle smith and artillerist tend to already have their bonus action spoken for) I think heat metal is also a very useful spell and it adds a decent amount of damage to the calculations (it works best on armor wearers or if we use a net to restrain and some shackles to bind them and then we cast it on those shackles, which also gives them disadvantage to attacks and checks) synergising wonderfully with our Little helpers play style. Another choice will always be dragons breath. Both spells get a good bit better when you upcast them!

I'm about to play a Artificer/Warlock just for the Humonculus and Pact of Chain (Imp) combo with making wands quickly. Should be fun. Thanks for the spell overview.

The subclass specializing in defense (Armorer) not getting shield was an interesting choice,

Blink can be great too depending on your build.

Artificers are ment to be for more creative players, I regularly make and recharge unique items for my party. 1 staple item I make are mending bandages, their bandages that can be put on broken items to mend it back to normal. My party has used them to repair broken doors, a shield, multiple swords, they've even used them to help fix a wagon. Player creativity in item creation and magic usage is most important in using this class. Using whats offered in the book is good but don't forget to branch out, talk to dm and make your own unique items.

While this is late, I'd like to argue for Conjure Barrage over Fireball. Why? At the cost of a little damage, you turn friendly fire damage off.

I think you need Web on your list in order to create a magic item with it.

In my opinion the 2024 Animate object is more a Disney spell than a combat spell.  Object do not fly. they grow legs and walk.

3rd level spells aren’t good but.. HASTE is better than usual because good CON save and Flash of Genius and Mind Sharpener makes it very unlikely you will fail that Concentration check and DISPELL is better because you can add Flash of Genius to the check.

It’s still not great but.. it’s a little better than most people think
